I went to the doctor a couple months ago for my earaches, and upon taking my blood pressure, she tells me that I am hypertensive. I have a history of high blood pressure readings. I think it's caused from anxiety, she thinks too much sodium in my diet. What are some ways to reduce blood pressure? Besides the obvious cutting out sodium, because I'm trying that right now as well. I hate how my anxiety makes the reading high when it might not really be.

Thanks for any advice

Yeah I went to the urgent care clinic for severe back pain yesterday and my bp was 147/102 but I know it was from the stress of being in so much pain. Most doctors don't really care about the mental factors of your health. Either way, whether it's caused by anxiety or high sodium intake, it is never good to have a constant high blood pressure...

Maybe you should purchase an in home blood pressure cuff and check your own vitals to see if being in a more relaxed environment makes a difference. You can return it to the store.

Meditation has been proven to really help some people lower their BP

I take Diovan with hydrochlorthiazide (diuretic) and Catapres for hypertension. Salt only reduces pressure approximately 4 points, which is nothing if your blood pressure gets to around 222/127, which mine did once. High blood pressure runs in my family, in both of my parents. Such is genetics.
