I haven't been watching my blood pressure, but I wasn't feeling right the other night, so I took out my blood pressure cuff and my b.p. was 197/128...yikes. 120/80 is normal.

I immediately took the meds that I have, should something like this happen and now it is 136/77. Meds get me a little tired, but I guess, since my b.p. goes up in the winter, I'll just have to deal with it.

On top of bipolar and thyroid issues....I guess I shouldn't complain. At least b.p. meds and such are there for us today.

Anyway, I am glad that I took my b.p. before I had a stroke or heart attack!!

Hey, Petunia!

Shouldn't you be on some daily bp meds? Is it because of your thyroid that your bp spikes? There are so many inoffensive, cheap, proven, generic bp meds that you could certainly find one that helps make sure your bp is okay every day, without your having to get out the cuff. And I really don't think anyone can feel it every time their bp goes up. Most often, as I'm sure you know, there are NO symptoms until it's too late.

Take care!

Yeah...I do take daily bp medications...it's just that the bp spikes especially in winter. I guess I am "lucky" to have symptoms when the bp goes whacky. I am not sure what part the hypothyroid plays in my high blood pressure because both of my parents suffered from high blood pressure, also. Surely, hypothyroidism doesn't help anything, though. I am going to have to lose weight, get exercise plan going AND eat a proper diet, whether I like it or not.

There are lots of cheap generic drugs for hypertension, but some of them have side effects like sleepiness or coughing or whatever.

And some of them don't.

Take care.

Thank goodness you happen to have that blood pressure cuff, huh?! ((petunia111))

I'm happy to hear that you took your bp when you "felt funny", and discovered the cause. Especially good that there are meds that you can take in emergencies like that. Life does become more complicated when we take more than one or two meds. Drives me crazy sometimes!

Gentle hugs to you
