Has anyone ever had an abnormal mammogram? When you had it redone, what did it show? I am wondering if it happens sometimes that the second one reveals no problems even if the first one is suspicious?
My mammo earlier this week showed "changes" from my last mammogram a year and a half ago and they want me to come back for a more thorough diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound. I'm scared this could mean cancer. They did tell me that I needed the second mammogram on both sides, so I thought maybe that was a good sign, because if I had a tumor, wouldn't it just be on one side?

don't automatically go to cancer, that is the first thought that comes to mind.
i am going to post a wonderful site for you to read. http://www.memorialhospital.org/libr...-benlumps.html now i am not saying oh yeah for sure not cancle don't worry about it, but what exactly can you do that will change things between now and when you get the results from the secong test, besides almost give yourself a heartattack from stressing out and worring so much. lumps are very common in women. just makin sure you are well informed on both |

I agree with racee and yes I've had this experience where I had to go for an ultrasound and even had a biopsy, but it turned out benign thank God. I promised myself I wouldn't jump the gun and worry although I did worry slightly.
My sister inlaw years ago found a lump in her breast and from the moment she found it, she alarmed everyone and had them all thinking she had cancer - she didn't even call the doctor at that point. It turned out it wasn't anything to worry about. Sometimes the technician doesn't get a good xray or there may be some calcification or an enlarged gland. Some women have dense and lumpy breasts but they're benign. Try not to worry because you don't want to put yourself through unnecessary stress. I do hope it will be nothing (((sunrise))).

I have had this happen 2 times before and yes it is very scarey when you get that call. my last one was just a few months ago and they had me terrified. ended up I had some tissues overlapping so nothing to it. try not to read too much into it til you get the ultra sound and repeat mammo done hon.

Thank you so much, everyone! And thanks for that website, racee. I am trying not to worry before visiting radiology again. My appointment is Monday so I don't have long to wait. I told my sister today, but won't tell anyone else as I don't want people to worry. My sister told me that she had a bad mammo once too, but it turned out to be nothing of consequence. So I will keep my fingers crossed and try to put it from my mind.

Every year I end up taking a sonogram in addition to the mammogram due to changes in my breasts. It has never been anything. In my case, some of this has been because they've updated their equipment to more sensitive equipment. They actually told me ahead of time not to panic if asked to do a sonogram in addition to a mammogram.

Thanks everyone. I had the repeat diagnostic mammo and also an ultrasound. Result is clusters of small cysts--harmless--in each breast. So nothing to worry about at all! I don't know why my breasts have grown all these little cysts in the last year--it is not new machinery. They said that after I go through menopause (not there yet), these cysts will probably not occur.
So the good news is everything is fine!
