Hello! I've been on this site for a few months now, mainly posting about anxiety and PMDD issues. I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia last week, and started on neurotin. Does anyone know good reading material or websites to gain some insight on this? I'm kinda anxious (but somewhat relieved since this has been a long process figuring out what has been wrong the past year or so) about this diagnosis, I work in the medical field and my job can be physically demanding at times.
Also think it would be a good idea for my husband to read about this....I don't think he understands the 'constant painful' episodes that occur with this. I'm just anxious and overwhelmed at this point. I haven't really told anyone except my close family.

Here are a couple of good sites to start with. There is a ton of information out there about fibromyalgia.....some good stuff, some not so good stuff. I try to stick with the tried and true sites like the Mayo Clinic and nih.gov.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001463/ http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fibromyalgia/DS00079 I understand it's a relief to be dx'ed but I am sorry that you have fibro. For me, everyday I'm hurting in a different place, I never know what to expect unless I've done something really physical (like shoveling snow), then I know I'll be hurting in specific places. I was on neurontin a number of years ago for some MS like symptoms and pain (could have been a fibro flair???). It worked wonders for me especially for the horrible tenseness and pain in my legs. Take good care! |

I was also on neurotin for pain but it caused a side effect so I had to stop it. I hope things work out. It is good to finally get a dx. Sometimes we think all this is in our head and its really physical. Then if Dr. know you are on psy. meds they sometimes assume that the physical thing is part of the mental illness. Sometimes yes, but sometimes no.

I do agree, it's a relief to get a diagnosis. The doc also said this is why I've probally had so many issues with the PMDD, couldn't take SSRIs for the PMDD because I was so sensative to it and got horrible side effects, and why I am having so many allergy issues with everything else. But, now my allergist is aware of the fibro dx and agrees with the other doc that all symptoms make sense now.
What kind of home remedies do you guys do at home to deal with the pain? I've been trying to get back into Yoga again-it's hard to push yourself though.

Yoga is good
![]() I try to do some meditation, sometimes when going to bed if I am in a lot of pain or it's been a particularly rough day I'll take a flexeril or lorazepam to help me sleep. Hot/Warm showers/bubble baths to help relax you are good too. And then there are times when all you can do is fight through the pain and do what needs to be done. I hate those times *sigh*. |

Thanks Sabby! Yea, I'm just trying to adjust....and knowing I can spread myself to thin with work and social stuff. It's hard because I haven't told really any of my friends (accept my best friends-one lives out of state and ones lives out of town)....so when I decline an outing I usually just say 'don't feel that great now...' or I just try to make it an early night. Because I know if I dont I'll feel it the next day for sure.
I do get anxious with work.....I'm on my feet all day with my job and I've noticed on days I am off, I am sore and such. Ugh! Quote:
