My sister was just dx with this condition of the stomach after having a scope done of her esophagus and colon... and I was wondering if any one on here has ever dealt with the medical problem and how it was treated, solved? - the doctor presently has my sister on a strong antibiotic and gastric medicine.

Thank you,

Helicobacter Pylori
a spiral shaped bacterium that lives in the stomach and duodenum (section of intestine just below stomach) and this micrometer organism has a unique way of adapting to the harsh environment of the stomach by living in the stomachs protective mucus lining.

* a bacterial infection that is contracted through fecal contaminated food, water or utensils.

Sounds a lot like Hepatitis A. Helicobacter Pylori

If it's anything like that than only time will heal it once the infection runs its course.

Took me three months and lots of follow-up blood tests to get back on my feet at age thirteen. Helicobacter Pylori

Helicobactor pylori is a bacterium that resides in the stomach of most people. In some cases the normal environment of the stomach changes and h. pylori is then able to over grow. When this happens, it can cause ulcers...also, pain, nausea, acid reflux, etc. When I was working in a GI office, 6 years ago, the standard treatment was heavy-duty anti-biotics, 3 times a day for at least 21 days. Also, a prescription antacid like protonix, nexium, or aciphex is usually used. The antacid is to prevent further irritation of any areas by stomach acid, and to allow healing while the anti-biotics are being taken. Sometimes the anti-biotics themselves cause nausea and acid reflux...the prescribing doctor can give ideas on helping with that if it happens.

She's getting good treatment. It's normally looked for when scopes are done. A recent discovery, it's responsible for stomach ulcers so treatment is preventive. I have heard that sometimes the strong antibiotics are a bit rough, but she'll get through it.

Thanks to every one that replied back to me "a concerned sister" - Helicobacter Pylori

It is good to hear that my sister is indeed getting the best possible treatment for this H Pylori thing she has going in her stomach... and I am thrilled that it was found sooner than later, as I have read that in some rare occasions cancer can develop over time from untreated H Pylori.

I talked to my sister today and see told me that she was also Dx with Melanosis Coli - results from the colonoscopy she had done...... the principal cause of melanosis coli is chromic laxative use - and yet my sister has never abused laxatives and rarely used them growing up.

Does any one else know of any other causes of Melanosis Coli? - (aka) Black Colored Lining of the Colon.

Melanosis coli occurs when the normally pink-colored lining of the colon turns dark brown or black from an accumulation of pigment in its connective tissue layer, usually from laxative use.

Melanosis coli from Wikipedia

senna as ingredient including teas

I'm glad it is a benign finding.
I was wondering what else the common laxative ingredient senna might be in, so I googled that and I see it's in other things like dieters teas, for example.

I hope this is helpful!

Did you miss a lot of school? My daughter is on week 3 of missing school. She has been treated twice for H-Pylori. Still experiencing stomach pain.

"H. pylori infection is thought to be present in about half the people in the world." From: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/h-pylori/DS00958

I read about another woman who used health store stool softeners for a very short while for her constipation and had a dx of Melanosis Coli with her colonoscopy. There are other herbs that can cause it, rhubarb-related.
