Does anyone else get this?

Sometimes, especially right now, I feel really hot and no matter what I do, it won't go away. It doesn't always happen when the weather is hot. It's happened to me a lot in spring and fall (when it's in the 50s) and even a couple times in winter. It lasts anywhere from a day to about 3 or 4 days. It wakes me up at night because I feel so uncomfortable. Doesn't matter if the a/c is on, the windows are open or any of that. I'm male so it's nothing dealing with menopause or any of that. I can practically lay naked in a freezer and it won't go away. Well, sometimes I can cool myself off and I will be ok for an hour or two but it comes back. I will take cold showers but as soon as I dry off, I'm hot again. It's not really something that is a huge burden, but it can get annoying.

Are you on meds? Some anti depressants played havoc with my temperature regulation- cymbalta and effexor mostly.

I'm also thinking about hormone levels needing to be checked? I'm not sure what, perhaps thyroid, maybe other stuff. Hormones can do all sorts of funny things to you if they are out.

I know how horrible this can be, from my experience whilst on meds, hope you can get it sorted. Perhaps time to see your dr?
Thanks for this!

I think it can also be a symptom of type 2 diabetes / high blood sugar.
Thanks for this!

we aren't drs here but it could be thyroid or like someone else said diabitis. I would go to the dr and have them do blood work to see what is out of whack.

I had about 6 months where I was running a temperature right around 100F. I wasn't sick & I didn't have an infection that they could find. Go figure....they called it a "fever or unknown origin".

I could only do things for about 15 minutes before being completely wiped out & had to go sleep for awhile & the heat that I felt from it was horrible...just continually wore me out.

There are many reasons yes, like hormones, an underlying infection, medications that whack out our system......will take some investigation that's for sure.

If you're not on medications, I would have your doctor run a blood and urine test for diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, hyperthyroidism, thyroid storm (extreme version of hyperthyroidism, in which case skip your local doctor and go to the hospital), CRP and SAA levels (indicators of inflammation and depending on the level they can suggest/rule out certain diseases), ketone level (can increase with high blood sugar and doesn't lead anywhere positive), etc... .

You don't have to answer the following questions although they are not personal, they are general questions but I won't take offense if you don't want to answer. When these spikes in temperature occur, does your skin turn a shade of red especially in the face? Also, do you find parts of your body twitching as though you're having a seizure (with or without loss of consciousness)? Do you have any shortness of breath when these symptoms occur? Lastly, is your vision blurred or do you feel lightheaded?

At the end of the day, you may be told the cause is idiopathic, which means the cause is unknown.

paracetamol is great for reducing hot feelings and temperatures, just be sure it does not interact with your meds
I get spells of hotness and perfuse sweating after i eat, go to the loo, when struggling to move and when in bed, it is really uncomfortable,, i have a dx of hyperhydrosis so take probanthine for it, this helps, it had reduced it to just the times mentioned above rather than all day and night as it was.
chrones, digestive disorders, and allergies also cause hotness as your body reacts to things!
best thing is to get checked out by a doc or specialist
Thanks for this!

Heat intolerance was one of the initial symptoms that sent me to the doctor when I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I couldn't get cool - but - I can't say that it was transient. I was hot all the time and felt like I might spontaneously combust at other times, particularly if anything the least bit stressful was happening.

Well thanks everyone for the replies. I'm sorry I have not been posting. my computer was out for a while with a virus. Finally got it back to normal.

First and foremost, I do not take meds. I never have and I never will. I do not believe in pills of any kind. I'm a natural person. If you give me a plant and say it is good for whatever, I'll take that any day. But weird chemicals that I can't pronounce come near me and I literally run and hide. It's almost like a phobia, but anyway yeah I haven't really experienced it lately and it comes and goes. I've had it for most of my life, really.

I am not offended to answer your questions.
1. Yeah sometimes I get a little red in the face, sweaty and my skin feels sunburnt.
2. No, never noticed any twitching. But sometimes I find myself misjudging how tightly I am holding onto things and I will drop things I am holding.
3. No no shortness of breath. I feel totally fine, just hot and maybe tired sometimes and often very hungry when it happens.
4. No. Vision is fine and I never feel lightheaded. I actually feel more alert, yet relaxed or tired, but I feel like I can think very clearly.
