Hi, During a recent dental check up the Dr. referred me to an endodontist. That Dr. said I need to have the tooth extracted and possibly have a biopsy done. I will be getting that done next Thursday but now I am fixated on the biopsy part..actually terrified that they will find cancer. I don't smoke, am very healthy...but who knows...I imagine all sorts of scenarios and can't seem to stop thinking about it to the point I cannot sleep.
I have not cared for my teeth as I should have and it has abcessed..so hoping it is just a cracked tooth..but wish I could come to terms with this..it is crippling me... |

The other is to ask why a biopsy is being mentioned as a possibility, if you haven't already. Also, what I reminded myself when faced with a tests for a serious health issue, is that whatever is there, is there, and finding it as soon as possible was the best thing that could happen. We can't take care of what we don't know about. ![]() |

Hi ~ I had alot of dental problems due to some medication that I've had to take -- and have gone thru alot of repair. I've had MANY abcesses in the past, and have NEVER been told I needed a biopsy.
![]() Chances are this is just a case of the tooth needing repair. Try not to worry -- it doesn't help matters, or change anything anyway. All worrying does is make you sick. Trust that the doctor will take care of it, and you will be fine. Easier said than done, i know -- but try. ![]() Best of luck and let us know how you come out. Hugs, Lee |

Thank you both so much...I appreciate your replies more than you know. No I did not ask why...when I heard the word..I pretty much froze...
I know you are right, echoes...my husband has prostate cancer but it was caught early and he is ok,not good but ok,,,I am trying to stay positive... I am one of those people that worry and worry and imagine all sort of outcomes, usually negative until I have a full blown panic attack....trying hard to break out of that pattern. I am hoping they will give me some happy gas....LOL |

It sounds like your doctor may just not "know" what is causing the abscess:

Back from the dental surgery and just up from a long vicoden induced nap. All went very well. I could not have asked for a better experience. I went in in a state of terror and they totally understood. Dr. said he did not think a biopsy is needed..but I opted for it anyway..just to be safe. Whole thing took maybe an hour and I only lost one tooth. This whole experience has reminded me that I do not have my anxiety and panic attacks under as much control as I would wish. Thank you all for your kind support. I am so glad to have found this forum and site...Blessings

Be sure to let us know the results of the biopsy too.
Glad you are feeling better. You are very brave for going. I have huge massive gigantic fear of dentist. Thank you for reminding me what could happen if I don't get over it and just go and get my tooth filled. kp
