Hi all,
I am ALWAYS COLD, and it gets me down. I moved 12 years ago to a warmer state but and it did help a little for the first few years, but now I think I need to move somewhere a little warmer - like the brim of a volcano. Like right now, I am wearing sheepskin slippers, woollie bedsocks, denim jeans, a singlet (sleeveless spencer), 2 long sleeve heavy cotton tops, a woollen jumper, a knitted cardigan and my dressing gown all layered over each other. All this, and I still get goosebumps and chills on my skin. Yes it is winter, but the heater has been on for hours and husband and kids grumble that its too hot inside. I feel like my bones are cold, like I'm cold to the core, and I just don't seem to be able to get warm. I've been tested fine for thyroid imbalances, am not on any meds, am not underweight, and have tested fine for autoimmune disorders.
Any ideas??? Does anyone else experience this too??? Come on summer, when it lessens and I can take off my dressing gown and cardigan.
Thanks.
kp

Are you a sedentary person? (Do you sit around a lot?) If so, I suggest you get up and move around and get your blood circulating. Body movement should generate some heat and that should warm you up. I don't mean taking a few steps here, I mean movement like riding a bike for 20-30 minutes or taking long walks for that period of time. You live in a warm climate but do you go out and get some sun? Sunlight is good for you. If possible, go outside and do some gardening (or walking). Sink in the rays and keep moving around. Your body will certainly feel the heat.

Do you drink hot or cold beverages? Do hot beverages warm you up? Do spicy foods warm you up?

I have blood sugar problems. When I am hungry, I get cold. It seems like even my bones are cold - particularly at night. It's a sign that my body is out of fuel and I need to eat something. Have you had your blood sugar or circulatory system checked? I hope you feel better!

Three other things jump to my mind: low boby fat, anemia, and problems with the thyroid. A blood test can tell you if you are anemic and whether or not your thyroid is fuctioning properly. Not sure how they check body fat though. I hope you find an answer.

After writing this, I remember seeing something about a man who also had problems with being cold and it turned out the cause was a large cyste in his spleen, and he had to have his spleen removed to resolve his problem with being cold. Err, I hope I haven't scared you.

Tell ya what, It is 90's+ here... want to trade homes seasonally? I have a nice 3 bdr 2.5 bath in a good school system Rent is a mite high but we can work on something! I would KILL to bring out my blankies!!!!

On a more serious note... I have found heated socks (usually made for hunters and very ugly) may help. When I am cold I have found the warmer I can keep my feet the warmer I feel. I will also put my feet up on a heating pad if I am watching TV or reading. Ginger tea and ginger baths are also a big help for me when I am feeling chilled to the bone and just can't seem to get warm.

Thank you all for your responses. I am not a sedentary person at all, am actually quite active, and albeit far from being overweight, I am not lacking in body fat! Esp post pregnancies!! But perhaps you are right julia, perhaps it is sydney that is so cold this year, and not just me!! Today the sun was out, and T came to visit, and couldn't believe how many layers I had on then felt my cold cold hands. Not anaemic either - tested good for that too. Maybe I'm just part frog. I don't drink hot drinks or cold drinks - or food for that matter. I don't like hot or cold things in my mouth. So I drink room temp coffee/tea/water/oj etc (yeah, I know, gross! Not the first time i've heard that! ).
Anyway, this little cold frog is going to hop off now. thank you all,
kp (neeedip)

KP - do you have low blood pressure? I do and was told the reason I'm always cold is b/c my blood isn't able to circulate enough. My hands and feet are the worst. In the winter my finger tips will literally turn blue. I'm always wearing multiple layers. Even in the summer.
