This has happened to me since ages. Sometimes when I lean my elbow on the table. I get this quick, sharp, electric pain. It's hard to explain. It is uncomfortable. It's like a electric shock. Has anyone had this before?

People get this kind of thing all the time happycheeks. I know I do. It's that thing they call the "funny bone". There are lots of nerves around the elbow and there is very little fat tissue and all bone. When leaning on the bony part of the elbow, you are leaning on the nerves as well and they will give you that feeling of a shock and pain. As far as I know, it's nothing to worry about and you just have to change how you lean on your elbows hon. It truly is a natural thing that is happening. I'll bet that if you were to lean on something soft and cushy, you don't find it happening right?

I broke my funny bone when I was a kid and fell off my pony. Nothing funny about that. Well unless it is funny that later I was galloping my pony with a cast on my arm.

This is why it's rude to put your elbows on the table! From Hankster's Book of Etiquette

Just to add to what Sabby told you, it isn't a bone at all...that is your ulnar nerve. You have one in the elbow of each arm. They usually have very little protective covering as Sabby said. Mine are particularly exposed. If I rest my elbows in a certain way, even on a soft surface, my arms will "go to sleep" from the elbows down.

Two years ago I took a fall (real graceful one at that LOL) and I put my arms out to stop me from face planting on the cement. Well, the result of that was breaking my hand, a finger and my elbow. What a treat. And no.....it didn't tickle one little bit! To this day, I have problems with my elbow and I cannot lean on it like I used to and it cracks when I straighten my arm if I've leaned on it too long or kept it in a certain position for too long.
Now, when I look back on the grace of it all...it is funny as all get out. ![]() ![]() |

Yep, it was pretty painful alright and for quite some time afterwards as well. But, it finally healed up and I'm okie dokie now.
![]() I like the idea of pain tickling instead of hurting, but I wonder if it tickled would we have it checked out and fixed if need be if it didn't hurt and only tickled? ![]() |
