I'm having a bad time with my neck. It sometimes feels like my head is too heavy. It's weird. It feels like there is a rope around my neck just hanging down with a weight on each end. It feels like the heaviness is pulling my neck down.

My upper spine is becoming more curved in the way that happens with age. In my case, it is happening faster than for most people and affecting my neck worse than what I usually see in people way older than me.

I am in my 50's. It's like I have a turtle neck. This is really sore today. It got much worse the past two days. I'm thinking of going to the emergency room. A simple xray would confirm that there is a bad excess curve in my neck. Somehow I doubt they could do anything. If I had the money, I would go to a chiropracter. I would ask for a neck traction device. They are expensive. I do have an appointment to see my PCP in a week or so. I feel that's too long to wait. I'm scared.

I'm so afraid this will just get worse day by day.

hi, rose. like you, i am in my 50's. i find that lifting weights to strengthen my back has helped my strength and posture. it makes holding my head up easier. please ask your MD if you are physically up to lifting weights on a weight machine. (do not use free weights.) the weights do not have to be heavy; the purpose is not to become a body builder! the goal is to strengthen your muscles to help the bones do their job. science has shown that lifting weights, even at our age, is good for both muscles and bones! it strengthens both. good luck to you!
Thanks for this!
