When I was little I had awful ears...the eardrums to be exact. I had several surgeries on the one eardrum and just a few on the other. They put tubes in and everything. They had to reconstruct the eardrum that was really bad because I had 5% of my eardrum intact. To put it more simply...I barely had an eardrum left in that one ear.

After all the surgeries I was told I could go swimming again and could get water in my ears and all. But in the past few years--only every once in awhile--if I get water in my ears I get this extremely severe pain deep in my ears. Usually it just goes away and there's no drainage or anything.

This morning while taking a shower I was washing my ears. I must've gotten too much water in my ear or something (the one that was really bad). I got the severe pain and all that. I figured the pain and everything would be gone and all. But the pain, although not as bad as it was in the shower, is still there...along with some drainage. Also in that ear I had a small hearing loss...things are really muffled.

I'm just afraid that something is really wrong this time. I hope my eardrum isn't ruptured or anything like that. I don't know if I could handle that.

If anyone has any input or suggestions or anything PLZ let me know...I don't know what to do.

I'm no medical doctor or anything, but I've had problems with my ears as well.

It could be just an ear infection, or maybe a wax buildup that hardened and is causing pain. Or it could be a blocked eustachian tube (which you really can't do much about, unless it develops into an ear infection)

I'd go see your doctor ASAP. Hope you feel better soon, ear aches/pain aren't any fun!!

With your past history, I'd definitely call the doctor.

The drainage could just be water mixed with wax, and the water could have bruised your eardrum slightly, but just to be safe, call the doctor, or at least the Ask-A-Nurse line.

I agree with the others, if you aren't feeling better by tomorrow, call your doctor. Hearing loss is high due to ear infections. How are your sinuses, btw? It's all connected in a way...and having a cold or sinus trouble can also cause ear pain, etc. Feel better soon. TC
