When I was little one of the most prominant thing my mother would say to me was "Heels Down". She always said it, because I never walked normally I always walked on the front soles of my feet. No mater what shoes I wore I always walked and ran like that. I have walked like so ever since I knew how to walk, although my mom's persistant demanding of me to put my heels down got me out of the habit by the time I entered middle school. But old habits die hard and I still run on the front soles of my feet...
So basically I just wanted to know if there is a medical reason for this. I may not have it as bad anymore but I'm just interested in knowing why I always used to walk like that.

It's hard to say what is normal. Small children don't walk heal to toe, they learn that as they grow. Also, people in parts of the world not using shoes can also preserve a little of the infantile walk, which is kind of natural, you don't want to slam your heal and whole foot into a sharp object. People who do wear shoes very often, usually cannot do anything but infantile walk if made to walk outside. They simply have sensitive feet. Maybe you have overly sensitive feet?
Infantile walk can be preserved mostly in autism, where the brain seems to stay in a less developed stage for much longer. It might hold true for other conditions as well. As for fast runners, they don't run on their heals at all. |
