I am having alot issues with keeping my blood sugar levels up. well when I take my meds at least. I am having huge drops down into the low 60's. today it dropped down to 98 which is ok but I could feel it really dropping so I ate me a tuna sandwich which should have brought it up with the white bread and mayo but instead it dropped on down to 81. it is up to 107 right now but my heart is still pounding! feel all shakey too. anyone know what this could be? any experience like this? my chest isn't hurting but feels sort of strange. shakey strange

hi bepop, i also have diabetes and am very familiar with the lows, or bottoming out is what i call it. i have been Diabetic for about 15 years now and it runs all through my family. At one point i was taking a medicine called glipizide and was almost daily suffering with sugar levels going clear down into the 40's. i started asking other diabetics and eventually talked with my pcp. Most everyone i know who is diabetic had the same problems while they were taking glipizide, one aquantenance was even rushed to the hospital with a sugar level of 17. i quit taking the glipizide and only take metformin now and i rarely have problems with my sugar going too low. it still happens from time to time, but i dont have much trouble bringing it back up with a little orange juice and peanut butter crackers. i try to carry some everywhere i go. i would get ahold of your pcp and make sure there is nothing else going on. i hope this has helped and that you get to feeling better soon.

thanks doxie. I went to the er last night because the shakes and the palpitations just would not stop after several hours. I am on the glipized too but can't take the metformin. makes my tummy hurt so bad! my pcp told me last night he would probably lower my dosage of the glip. though so we will see how that works. thanks again hon!
