Anything I should know going into this? I take pills for schizophrenia, is that okay?

I suggest that you make sure your dentist knows what meds you're taking and also remind him/her beforehand. I doubt there'll be a problem, but it's good to make certain the dentist is informed.
Are your teeth being pulled out or are you going to have to have some surgery because one or more are still under the gums? |

yes, i had all 4 removed. as a teenager.
the pain is mild with the medications. i was given Lortab. the whole surgery was a blur, i don't remember. i wasn't anesthetized i don't believe, im not sure. if u smoke, dont. dont use straws or anything that makes the sucking motion with ur mouth. it causes "DRY SOCKETS" i had 2 of them, they are VERY painful and disgusting. rinse ur mouth and the wounds out with water (sometimes they supply an irrigation needle to u) after u eat.

I also went to an Oral Surgeon, and was "put out" so it was much easier. Takiing out wisdom teeth can be difficult, because they're back so far, and sometimes they aren't "in" all the way, so it makes it hard to get them out. Then the dentist/surgeon has to kind of "cut" the gums a bit to remove the tooth, and that can be painful. But of course if your dentist gives you a big enough shot or enough shots you won't feel anything.
![]() Just make sure you have pain meds for afterwards cause you'll have some pain after they're out. Also have some ice packs ready. I wish you the very best. God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee ![]()

I had this done...all four at once surgically removed (they were under the gums).
They usually make you fill out a form about what medications you are taking, if they don't, make sure to tell them what you are taking. They gave me some Tylonel 3 for pain and some antibiotics to prevent infection. They half-knocked me out, but it wasn't a scary experience, I vaguely remember singing in the car on the way home. Make sure to have someone drive you, stay with you and bring you home after, you may want to ask them to stay a bit, but you're probably going to want to sleep. You are going to want to have broth soups, jello, pudding, ensure and lots of ice for your cheeks. They will usually give you a form telling you about 'after-care' but if they don't ask before they do the procedure to give this to the person who brought you. You will want to know what to avoid and what to do. Will you need mouthwash? What to do if there are (rare) complications? How often should you clean your mouth? How long should you rest afterward? When can you eat 'regular' food? etc. Set a cozy spot with everything you need before you go: PJs, tv remote, relaxing music, water to drink and to take pills with, clean sheets, phone nearby, lots of blankets, favorite dvds etc. Overall mine was a good experience, I hope you have the same...it is relatively painless and you get some cool looking swelling too! |
