Do you listen to loud music, especially through headphones or earplugs of any type? If so - stop immediately.
Thanks for this!

The medical term for ringing in the ears is tinnitus. There are countless potential causes, although some of the most common ones involve damage from loud noise exposure. Tinnitus is basically a sign that you've sustained damage within your inner ear and there's no way (at least not in humans) to re-grow the damaged areas. Another common potential is acute otitis media, meaning an ear infection to your middle ear. Although these are common in childhood, adults can also get them. You can get fluid build-up at the tympanic membrane and the most common route for this is the Eustachian tube that connects to your throat. In other words, you have a pathogen in your throat and it found its way along the Eustachian tube quite easily, may have led to some mucus blockage, increased pressure and you get ringing at random or semi-random intervals. Cure for this is wait it out. If it gets worse to the point of very painful, you could have a severe blockage and temporarily decrease hearing. At this point, it's a good idea to go to your doctor in case I'm wrong. If you have any prior ear damage that a doctor noted or surgery, it's vital to know.

Hey... yes to simplify, if it isn't constant then there is no permanent damage. As unhappy said, do not listen to loud music through headphones or buds and try not to get too close to any Marshall stacks or Ampeg bass rigs or any other sources of sound pressure. And as Oxi says, it isn't a bad idea to have it checked out by a good ENT doc if possible.

HI I have tinnitus I have had it for many years now. There is no cure if the ringing pursues. My advice is to accept it and eventually it dissapears into background noise like everything else. however if you stress about it then it become amplified in your mind. So best to accept and distract yourself with other things such as watching TV or listening to a bird chirp.
