I woke up in the middle of the night in severe pain. I had already taken meds at bed time. So I took more early this morning and am waiting for them to kick in so I can go have a life! Thanks for listening.

The meds you took before bed, were they for back pain? If not, maybe it's your mattress causing your back pain? Or, if so, maybe it adds to it? I sleep on a very lumpy mattress, and sometimes I get back pain. It sucks.

I took pain meds. My bed has two egg foams on it and a good matress pad. I wish I could afford that memory foam mattress. I have degenerative disk disease. Ans I do not accept it well.

Suggestion - a camping air mattress. Years ago I used to have major back pains. a doctor recommended an air mattress and I have been using them ever since and no longer get back pains. I usually buy the coleman brand because they last me about a year and I get them when they are on sale here for a double for $19 - $25.00. I cover the mattress with a comforter or mattress pad and then make the bed like normal.

I don't know if that memory foam really works as well as they say. I've heard some say it doesn't. Nothing springs back forever.

I use a 4 inch thick memory foam mattress over top my old, worn out mattress. It has done wonders for me. I highly recommend them!

I thought you had to get a whole bed with those things? You're talking about those commercials where the lady jumps up and down on the bed and the glass of water doesn't spill, right?

Hi,

In addition to pain meds, are you able to use heat or ice? I also have disc problems in my back. I take pain meds on occasion, but often ice helps me more than the meds do. Some of my friends have told me they have the same experience. Sometimes heat works better for some people, or ice does.....each person is different. But if you're not already trying that, it might be worth a try too.

Take care,
ErinBear

You can get it both ways a full bed set or individual mattresses. either way they are expensive a single here is about 200 - 400 dollars depending on where you get it.

No, they are not whole beds. I ordered mine off the net, but later found one just as good at WalMart of all places. They are very heavy thick foam of a kind I have never seen before. You can get them in whatever size you need. You just put them over top of your current mattress, and you won't believe the difference.

Hmmm, I have to try that Jan. The ice question. No, ice is not helpful. Dry heat is though. I am so sleepy from meds right now that I will need to sleep for a few hours. Didn't sleep well last night. I need a new bed! Thanks everyone.

Do you mean the eggcrate foam, January? Or are you saying you can buy memory foam in stores now? I thought you could only order it via the company that makes it online or by phone, from the commercial. The eggcrate foam isn't the same as memory foam. My boyfriend has one of those eggcrate foam things on his bed (which I sleep on). It's not cushiony and comfortable anymore, though.

No, it's not egg crate foam. It's genuine memory foam. You can buy it at Overstock.com and as I said, Walmart now carries it. You need to let it air for at least 24 hours before you put it on your bed and don't use fabreeze on it. It's wonderful! my back

Oh, I don't shop at Overstock.com, so I didn't know they had that. I don't get to Wal-mart often, but I'll definitely look for it.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you use Fabreeze on it?

The foam is ivory colored and if you use fabreeze on it, it turns the top yellow. I discovered it the hard way. my back

Oh, ok. My boyfriend recently bought Fabreeze for the first time, but hasn't used it yet. I'll make sure, if we get the memory foam (and I'm going to suggest it to him, even though it isn't likely he'd buy it), I'll make sure he doesn't spray any Fabreeze on it. And if he does, I'll whomp him good! my back

I love that expression, "womp". Well, I am feeling really miserable. My anxiety makes the pain worse and the anxiety makes the pain worse. I am really tired of it. It is going to be another night of a space heater so the dryness helps me feel better. Eventhough I am in significant pain most of the time lately, I did mange to turn the mattress and make the bed fresh. That is important to tend to. I am considering sleeping at a friend's to try out her water bed with baffles. I used to have the old fashioned kind.

I called the doc's nurse today and I complained about the pain and the sleep probs. They are so much more willing to accept it then I am. I am going to try 3 mgs lunesta. I need to get rest in my sleep instead of the weird dreams and pain. They were very kind. I do appreciate that. Truth is, I am a middle age woman and I feel like I have a disability. It's a loaded one for me. Lots of issues there. So thanks for baring with me.

grrr sorry to hear your back is bothering you. My PT says NO! to a water bed of any kind. Have you tried feather bedding, or even the convoluted foam mattress paddings? Sleep is very important, hope you get it figured out soon.TC

((((((wisewoman)))) I am truly sorry that you are suffering. I also wake up with pain during the night. I went and got a memory foam mattress hoping it would help.. Does somewhat, but I don't have just back pain.
My husband loves it though... I just always seem to find myself sitting up all the time regardless of where I am sleeping..
I can lay down but will end up sitting up sleeping so bent over the I end up with a stomach issue or hubby gets scared I am going to fall over to floor and be in such a position that it would be hard to get up. Or worse I guess. So I stopped sleeping with again because of always disturbing his sleep.... Boy I miss my man so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am getting there, thanks all. I think I am going to try a memory foam thing when I have the money for the one over the mattress.

the memory foam is way expensive. Try a regular foam, convoluted... I bought a king size one for $26 at a local bed and bath outlet (linens and things or bed, bath and beyoooooooooooooooond) lol
