Slight exaggeration in title..... but whatever. Anyway, about three hours ago, I suddenly got what can only be THE worst headache I have EVER had. EVER.
It was so sudden- like, literally, it came out of NOWHERE. It actually scared me a little.... it feels like someone is taking a fracken pick-axe from inside my head, and just driving it outward. It is on the left side of my head..... it's like it's behind the eye and across from the ear...... but it's further back than a sinus headache would be. It's like it's in the very center, or maybe more in the back of the head..... but not quite the VERY back of my head. I don't know how to describe it..... it just hurts so bad.
I don't know what to do, though; this morning, I just had an EEG done at the hospital, because I have possibly been experiencing silent seizures. I don't want to go back if it's "just a migraine" or "just a headache". I don't want to be a hypochondriac or something
I just know that this is for sure the worst headache I have ever had. I don't really have a history of migraines. Or at least, not that I have been treated for. I have tried extra-strength Tylenol, and it just won't go away. (It's actually getting worse as I type.) Now, its like it's so bad, that it is causing a radiating pain so I feel it a little on the right side. But it's still coming from a VERY, VERY distinct point in my head. If I could see a picture of the inside of my head, I could circle exactly where it is. I have actually cried on-and-off since it started. In addition, I had the shakes and just rolled up into a ball.... so much pain!!!

(I also worry they will just scoff at me, because in addition to this sudden headache, for the past two weeks, I have had nasty diarrhea, nausea, and extreme exhaustion. Now I am dealing with other stuff- dry mouth, constipation, sore throat and, of course, the killer headache.)

I don't know if I should be seeking emergency help. I can't see my GP until at least Monday..... but how the hell is that gonna help me with this pain that is just killing me now. Advice anyone??? PLEASE???

High blood pressure? Can you check it? Can you put your feet in the hottest water you can stand and soak them until the water cools? This brought my dad's not-migraine "killer headaches" down to the almost-bearable levels, then he'd lie down with ice packs on his neck & head.

I know headaches are horrible. I'm sorry you're hurting so badly.

I am indeed being treated for high blood pressure, but anytime I have been to the doctor recently they have been extremely good or at least average. Also, I did a little more digging and found out that, because EEG are meant to illicit any abnormal brain wave activity (i.e.- seizures, in my case) it's not unusual for you to get headaches afterwards. They make sure you have no more than 4 hours of sleep, no caffeine.... and then, towards the end of the hour long test, they place a really bright strobe light in front of your eyes, and do a bunch of flashing sequences. Their goal is to see if the strobe light sets off any unusual brain waves (i.e.- in the case of epileptics, seizures can occur after bright/flashing lights and sharp noises). I just wish they had told me that headaches were this common afterwards
But I should have figured that the strobe light was the cause.... after all, I can't go to concerts/raves/clubs or even dances, because the strobe lights and the color changing disco-ball things make me puke and, of course, give me headaches...... maybe that was the cause after all. Either that, or dehydration because I just got over a stomach bug. Whatever.... a good night's sleep should help. If not, I'll call the doctor in the morning and ask if it's really a common occurrence or if I should be worried. But thanks anyway for the advice... I did try the cold pack thing, and it helped a little

Feet in hottest-possible water ... Worth a try if ice worked.

Why not seek relief by going to an urgent care or immediate care walk-in type of provider?
They will not scoff at you. They may offer you pain relief and the advice to call your doctor for follow up, and you deserve relief from the pain

I never had headaches in my life....then all the AD's they tried with me seemed to have migraine as the side effect.....until I finally ended up with that kind of pain 24/7.....ended up that none of the migraine meds help.....but pain medication is the only thing that gives me relief......still all these years later.

Who would think that AD's would cause something like this? But who knows all the different triggers of migraines.

Sorry you are hurting so bad.....honestly, I ended up in the ER so many times getting pain relief was about the only thing that helped at that point.....not fun years of my life.....just glad they are now under control & I can function again.

Hope you get this figured out & are free from it soon

Sounds a lot like some of my migraines, and flashing lights are a major trigger!
I had an EEG a while back and freaked out with the flashing lights because I knew a migraine would follow.
Hope you are feeling better now!
