I haven't been to the doc, and don't plan to. But I've broken many bones. And I know what it feels like. I think I broke my ankle.

How do I fix it?

Do I rap it? Ice it? Apply heat? Stay off of it?

I don't know. Please help.

You don't have to know what to do. Just a suggestion would help.

Thanks

A broken ankle should be looked at by a doc. You can keep it safe for a while of course but it does need to be looked at because they have to heal the bone itself.

The best thing to do is to stay off of it until it can get looked at. Do tell your parents about this. You shouldn't allow it to stay this way.

I prefer to let the medical professionals assess your ankle to make sure you will heal properly. An example-it could be fracture and/or ligament or tendon so depending on what they diagnose the treatment may be different.

The ankle isn't just one bone, it's like 9 bones stacked on each other. The only way to tell what's wrong is an xray.

And X-rays are expensive. And that means money which I don't have... So... Looks like I'm doing gymnastics on a broken ankle and a sprained knee... FUN

You can ask the hospital to consider you for charity care. Most hospitals offer this and you may get free or reduced fees. You do not have to pay your bill off at once but you can make monthly payments that you can afford such as twenty dollars per month.

broken bones in your ankle can restrict the flow of blood to your foot which if not treated can result in your foot slowly dying and turning gangreenous and the only option if this happens is amputation, is it really worth risking your foot for the cost of an x ray?

I visited an Immediate Care facility for ankle pain that was not improving. After the ankle pain had been going on for a week or two, and before I went to the Immediate Care place, I smacked the same foot into a container of cat litter. I figured that I broke my little toe and nothing can be done for that but taping. I was fine with that part of what was going on with my foot, and I just wanted the ankle pain looked at because I was having trouble walking.

But the smacking of my foot into the container of cat litter bruised it good and all my toes plus some of the top of my foot near my toes were black and blue when I went to get looked at.

They took 6 x-rays, 3 of the ankle, and 3 of the toes, and they examined me. The total bill was $130.00. Not cheap, but less than I expected.

Someplace like an Immediate Care or Urgent Care place, rather than an ER, would be a good place to go, if you can.

A broken bone can cause internal damage to tissue and infection. And if you are going to do gymnastics with a broken ankle, it won't heal and will likely get worse.

honestly if it is broken I don't know how you manage without a dr. I broke my foot last night and have been to the er and 2 drs today. now with a fracture cast on and it sure has helped the pain and stability.

I have a high tolerance for physical pain. I went two years with a shattered thumb bone without going to the doctor.

Sorry about your foot. I hope it heals quickly.

But, high tolerance for pain or not, you suspect an injury and need to take care of yourself. When you don't heal correctly, it can be something that is harder to fix later.

Knowing you have a high tolerance for pain means you have the responsibility to be especially careful and attentive, so your injuries will be taken care of.

Even if one of us were an emergency dept physician that would not make it possible to diagnose what is broken or torn in your ankle by internet, let alone how to manage it. You need an xray.

This post is a bit old so I've already had an X-ray. And the injury was just a result of my bone condition. So it's ok. I guess. Normal people would say it's bad. But I guess it's normal for me

I'm glad you had it looked at. (I feel better, anyway )

I hope it isn't painful for you.
