I have suffered from allergies since I was a kid, but they have gotten so bad recently, I decided to get tested and thought about going back on shots. But, of course my new insurance doesnt cover shots, so it would be too expensive out of pocket. I suspected i might be allergic to dogs, and it turns out that I am . I dont know what to do, i love my dog so much. But I cant be sick all the time.
My parents might take her in. They watched for a while last yr when I wasnt doing so well mentally. I just dont know if theyd take her in permanently.

Are you allergic to other things too? Things like plants that are blooming or trees that are leafing right now?

I am allergic to cats but have always had cats. I am also allergic to grass, several trees (spring allergies), and ragweed (summer allergy). The only time the cat allergy bothers me is when the other seasonal allergies are causing me symptoms; at that time the cat allergy intensifies the overall allergic reaction I'm having. So, I know it will happen and I can take medication at those times, and know that it will ease up eventually too.

I have loads of allergies from dust , all 3 types of pollen to food stuffs and even an anti histamine! i take cetirizine every morning every day of the year, it keeps most of the airborne ones pretty much at a level that i can manage to function with. it is pretty cheap on the net, but like most allergy stuff takes a while to build up resistence.
the cost of one tablet a day is way less than the cost of all the boxes of tissues and the missed days caused by the allergies and if you get to keep your dog all the better. in the mean time, give your dog a bath and/or a good wet brushing as often as you can, often it is the dust or lose hairs that are the allergen rather than the dog, so lessen those and you lessen the reaction. you can always wear a dust mask to help you the first few times.
Thanks for this!

Drink a lot of water. A couple of liters per day. Staying extra hydrated helps with allergy symptoms.

For sinus pressure, put tiger balm over your sinuses. It really helps with the headaches.

I have friends whose daughter has deathly allergies to peanuts and a host of other foods, as well as a severe allergy to cats and a somewhat strong allergy to dogs, but they are able to keep a golden retriever who is not allowed in her bedroom.

Zyrtec is the strongest for allergies over the counter...I was prescribed Hydroxyzine for my hives.

Hydroxyzine for allergies

You might want to try one of these if you haven't before. Hopefully your parents will take your dog if you can't keep her.
Thanks for this!

It is a thick, waxy cream with a strong smell that makes your skin tingle and will make your eyes water - but rub it over your sinuses and it will help with a sinus headache. I got mine at Walgreens.
Thanks for this!

I am glad she stays in the family. Sometimes allergies just pop up as you age or your immune system undergoes stress.
Take some extra allergy pills and eat super healthy on the weekend and go visit her!!

if you rub tiger balm or vaseline around the nasal area and slightly into the nose it helps trap the air borne allergens before they enter your system

It seems my parents have changed their minds once again and can't take my dog . does anyone have any suggestions on how to find a good home for their pet? She's a very needy dog. We got her from the pound, and I'm so worried about finding her a good new home. thx

You need to look for your local pet rescue agency. I got my cats through the local agency, which has placed more than 600 cats in good homes over the years. One of my cats has the feline equivalent of HIV, so yes, pets with needs to get adopted. Good luck! I would take a picture of the dog and write up her "profile" and send to the local rescue agencies.
Thanks for this!

I know some people who have found homes for pets using Craigslist.
Good luck!
