Hi.

I'm twenty years old, and I have thalassemia. I've been able to live a relatively normal life until last summer. I had a surgery to remove my spleen and gallbladder, and it had loads of complications. Since then, I haven't been healthy. I have blood clots, I'm taking painkillers and blood thinners, I have severe abdominal pain, and my hemoglobin levels are around 7. I've also been told that I'm depressed, that I should take meds for that as well.

It's just overwhelming. I've nearly died four times in the past year, and it feels like no one can figure out why I'm not getting better. Is there anyone who knows what I'm going through? Thalassemia is a disease that no one knows about. I'm alone--I'm fighting this alone. I don't want to be fighting this on my own anymore.

((booklover821)) - so sorry you're suffering with this disease and had so many medical complications. I hope you're getting the best medical care. Maybe you could join an online support group. You're right, you shouldn't have to suffer alone and I hope you find some support. Here's some links just in case you don't know of any:

Welcome to PC!!!
I am sorry you are having to contend with this and I can understand your frustration and concern. As Lynn mentioned there are support groups, and you should not have to go through this alone. You are not alone here either. Also, if you have any questions about the lab tests and for monitoring, I am happy to help, please PM me. Keep in contact with your physician as any symptoms change or new ones develop; it is key to stay on top of them which it sounds like you are doing and I give you so much credit as I know how tiresome this can be. Hang in there and know that you really are not alone. (((((Booklover821)))))
