I have a long term migraine problem which i face during the occurrence of change in the seasons. In those days, i feel dullness in my mental performance but i want to ask whether it has a permanent impact or not. How disastrous it can be for my mental health?

Just MY opinion, but when you're having a series of migraines, obviously it's going to totally wipe you out. You're not only physically exhausted, but mentally too.

I've had several migraines myself and I cannot tell you how I felt afterwards. It was like my whole body had shut down for awhile. Of course it hadn't, but that's how I felt. That included my mind too, because I couldn't seem to think clearly.

I really don't think that migraines permanently effect your mental performance at all, unless you LET it. I've seen some people use that as an excuse, which is too bad. But physically, I really don't think it does. But I'm not a doctor either, and i don't have any statistics to back up my opinion.

You'd have to ask your doctor or a neurologist to find out for sure. I just really don't see any reason for it tho. God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee

I'm very mentally impaired while I'm having the migraine. Sometime I even lose time. Huge chunks of the day that I have absolutely no memory of. After it's done I have like a migraine hangover for the better part of a day, still impaired but not as much. After that I think I am totally mentally sound again. I've suffered with these for 25 years and haven't noticed any permanent mental problems.

Have you tried topamax...it acts as a preventative. I started getting them when I was a kid and until the topamax I had them almost every day...and now no more migraines. Some people have cognitive side effects with topamax (temp while on the med), and perhaps other side effects I don't even know about...I have had such good luck with it.

I have bad migraines, and I know how difficult they can be. They definitely impact my ability to function. Hope u get feeling better!

Migraines have no long-term ill effects on mental performance. I have been having migraines since age 3. They are difficult to live through, but there is absolutely no long-term harm and there are even some possible positive side effects in the realm of sexuality .

I was a computer engineer for 15 years.....anxiety/depression & then constant migraines to the point it didn't go away except for the time I went in for a demoral shot in the ER. Neurologist tried every possible medication....which ended up effecting my heart....so we didn't continue with that. They discovered a neck problem & I ended up having neck fusion which they hoped would stop the migraines....but it didn't.

I was so sick, I couldn't get out of bed, lived in a dark room, couldn't stand smells or sounds. It was horrible. Finally got me on a level of pain medication where I could function back at 100%....have been on that since 2003. Once I finally left my H 6 years ago, it's amazing the mental abilities that have come back.....reading, retaining what I read, & just enjoying life again.

Only when stress hits really badly does the migraine break through the level of medication....but when things are mostly ok & even with some levels of stress, I am more than 100% to the mental performance I previously had.

I have never completely recovered from the anxiety or the depression to the point of being able to hold down the stressful engineering position again....but then, technology has left me far behind since 1994. But I am pleased that I can get into logical discussions with people again & hold a logical conversation sometimes even better than I had been able to do with the stress of my bad marriage.
