I was recently diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Anyone else have a similar diagnosis? My treatment is going well, but is also sloooooow because I have to wait a month at a time to see if my symptoms are going down or not.

Hello pastthemission! Welcome to Psych Central! I'm glad to hear the treatment is going well, if slowly. Is that hormonally based? I hope you are able to be free of PMDD and feel much better.

Hi IowaFarmGal! It is hormonally based, but can be treated with certain SSRIs. Basically my symptoms increase during the third week of my menstrual cycle. The disorder will only fully resolve once I hit menopause or if I have my ovaries removed. But, my progress has been going very well and each month is better than the last so I'm thankful for that.

I have it, too. I hate it. Zoloft helps me but I still have symptoms. Take care.

Welcome-I had it for years until i was 50, then i had an operation that thermally took out my insides, have some period symptoms and helps with the menopause. It's the best operation i ever had!!!NO MORE MENSTRUAL CYCLES!!!

A search in google about severe depression and menstrual cycles brought me to this forum. I didn't connect the "bad thoughts" and menstrual cycle until today, until a friend had to almost talk me down from doing something drastic. I now realize this happens once a month for 1 day.. is this what PMDD is?? I'm 48 years old, and I have NEVER felt such despair like this before until this year. How do I find a Dr who deals with PMDD?
