I didn't really know where to put this question, so I just put it in this forum.
I have recently found a new doctor, not a pdoc, just a regular medical doctor and I am wondering what I should and should not bring up to her in my first appointment. Should I bring up that I'm seeing a T and should I tell her what for? Or should I keep things quiet for the first few visits? ![]() I am seeing this doctor because 1) I don't currently have a doctor 2) I have a strong history of family medical problems like breast cancer and arthritis and so on. To sum it up, I am not exactly seeing her for her to prescribe me meds on depression and anxiety, but of course she can and hopefully will eventually. |

You should mention your seeing a T, but, in general, if you can afford a p-doc for depression and anxiety, a p-doc would be better trained than a GP (in general, and there are always exceptions).

the paperwork you fill out may already have questions regarding your mental health, such as do you experience anxiety or depression? since it is not your primary focus for seeing her, you do not need to go into much detail, but it is part of your health history and medication history if you are currently on meds for these issues or have been in the past. so just mentioning that you experience anxiety and depression as part of your history will be enough and let her go from there.

I think you should tell her everything about your medical background - especially if you are on any meds. I have had GP's who referred me to good T's. There's a whole network involved and by telling her you can tap into it if need be.
