i was at the laundromat last night and slipped on a pool of water by one of the washing machines. i landed on my elbows-more so on my left elbow. the laundromat does not have any employees on-site so i left a note in their inbox. i iced my left elbow all night and will keep icing for another day. there is no swelling, just some bruising and a slight scrape. this morning i woke up with an achy left shoulder and arm. i plan to call the laundromat tomorrow to file an official report. i hope they have cameras in the laundromat as i did not get the name and phone number of the woman who was a witness. i am just wondering what i can do to make sure the laundromat will take responsibility for this as i might have to see a doctor.

TerryL,

Are you in the US? If so, they should have insruance in case anyone falls are is injured. I have fallen in stores, once because the floor was uneven by 2 inches...They covered all my medical bills.

Let us know what happens. I hope you feel better soon!

HI Terry..definitely contact the laundry mat and keep copies of any correspondence you give them...date and sign it too.

Additionally I suggest you seek a free consultation from an attorney that specializes in slip and fall cases...as you may not be aware of all the legal rights you have in this matter and the laundry mat owners probably will not advise you but rather seek to settle at the very minimum.

Ironically, I too have a slip and fall and a fractured elbow...very painful...shoulder and head pain too. I am under doctors care.

Do seek both counsel and medical as you need to be certain ALL areas affected by this slip and fall are medically diagnosed and cared for...you do not know what this accident could present to your health over the years.

Best to you.

I am in the US but I don't think the laundromat is a big business. I checked our local dept of commerce and consumer affairs and turns out the owners are in another state.

I am sorry you got hurt also and it sounds much worse than my injury. I hope you will heal well and very soon. As for me, yes, my main concern is with the possible long terms affects of the injury. My own doctor would not see me as they don't do third party injuries. He directed me to urgent care which is more expensive. I had to pay out of pocket. The doc there said she doesn't think I have any fractures, just a shoulder sprain. I don't even know why she said sprain as I fell on my elbows. To me it is more of a contusion. I told her my shoulder is not hurt, it is my upper arm which is sore and I fell on my elbows but the doc is refusing to change her diagnosis. I hope she is right. I hope that won't cause a problem with the claim. Plus I have not heard back from the laundromat at all. My expenses so far are less than $200. I did talk to my sister's friend's husband who is a lawyer and he thinks it is too small potatoes for a lawyer. The other alternative is small claims which would mean more time taken from work and an unpleasant face to face with the laundromat rep probably. I drafted the laundromat a letter and will send to their out of state address as well as put one in their Inbox at the laundromat. sorry, i guess this is more legal than medical at this point. Mods, please feel free to move my post.

Shoulder issues can cause pain in the upper arm. When I had inflammation of the shoulder, I felt the pain in my upper arm and I could barely lift my arm. I can see how falling on your elbows could have jarred your shoulder too. Like falling on your knees can affect your back.

I hope you feel better soon!

So sorry that happened! Those places really need to hire someone to be on site and watch for such things.
