My child had this done. The process he went through was first a sleep study where he was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Then after the formal paper work was done he had an operation where his tonsils, and adnoids were removed and then they thinned out the musuc membrains of the nose and throat to make his airway larger.

he still has to go through the second sleep study which will varify if the operation has helped. on the plus side he is not on a CPAP machine so in my opinion thats a good thing in that the operation did not cause his apnea to become worse. So he is either the same as he always was or he has improved. Either way he can consider this a win win situation because he did not get worse.

OMG, I was just getting ready to post about this very same thing.

I'm going for another sleep study on Dec. 8th. My doc wants to shink my tongue and remove some of the soft tissue as well. I need my nose fixed as well.

From what I understand for the removal of tissue it's an in office thing. They curtrize the tissue so it is like just burning off the tissue. Suppose to just have a sore throat for a few days. So the pain isn't suppose to be that bad. But it could take more then one of these treatments to get the effect you want. For fixing the nose I know that it's a lot more to it. That's the part that scares me the most is fixing the nose.

It is surgical but not a big issue. If you need a cpap, you need to use it. Not using it can lead to heart trouble. (not to mention lack of oxygen)

"shrink your tongue?" That shows some of my ignorance in this area, as I know tongues to grow back. (I meant to study on this, as a recent tv show highlighted a girl who's tongue is hindering her breathing)

I've had sinus surgery, but since I'm allergic to epinephrine, I had a tough time of it afterwards. need advice The pain protocol now days is great! Just tell them you don't have to have the pain you have, and they must give you something.

Do you mean the Tonsils and adnoids? If you do I had them out at age 9. It is not a severe surgery but does hurt. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids NO DAIRY! and eat ice chips and jello. No matter how hungry you are or if you feel like eating, don't! I thought I could and had a bad experience! need advice need advice . Do have it done. I had it done for a different reason, I kept getting sick and they were too small. But enlarged is much more common. God bless you and I how everything goes well! need advice
