I'm a bit nervous - my Dr. wants an ultrasound of my liver, as I've been having some pain in that area. Let's just say it's been a heavily abused organ in my body - I've been an alcoholic for 20+ years, now working on staying sober, and I'm on a boatload of psych meds which are all hard on the liver. I want to find out what's going on, but I admit I'm nervous. Ultrasound is next week

I can understand the concern. The test is painless and it will help to know what can be done treatment-wise if something does show. A typical "liver ultrasound" also checks your gall bladder, pancreas, ducts, and kidney in the process of doing this test. However, some of these other organs can also cause and radiate pain into that same area though other than the liver, and are fairly straight forward and simple things to help. I would concentrate on just getting the test done, which is the first step in taking of you, see what they say, and then go from there. I try to distract myself during these times doing other things to keep my mind off it as I can't do anything until I know more. Hang in there meanwhile and will be hoping for the best.

Fresia is right. The test will be a good thing and let the doctors know how best to treat you.

Stay busy until the test. Do stuff to keep your mind off of the outcomes.

I had to have an unltrasound on my leg when it got to where I couldn't walk on it. They found a huge blood clot, which they can treat. It's still kind of scary cause it could kill me at any moment but at least they are working reducing as safely as possible.

They can't treat something they don't know is there. Be strong. Good luck on the test. Hope everything comes out okay.
