I am deeply concerned that I have lost 2 inches in height in less than 5 months.
I was told a few years ago that I have osteopenia, but not osteoporosis.

Has anyone else here perhaps experienced such sudden and remarkable loss of height? Is there any hope?

That did happen to me about 5 years ago. When I discovered it, I made an appointment with my doc, who did blood tests and a DEXA (looking at the bones) test. Turned out I had something that needed treatment. The treatment was easy and things turned around. When I did the exercises prescribed, I regained some, but not all, of my height.

If I had not gone to the doctor, it could have turned into something serious because the loss of height was secondary to problem that had nothing to do with my spine. I needed treatment. But my partner, who is older than I am, has lost height due to age and doesn't need treatment because he doesn't have any illness or disorder causing it. But it took tests and scans to figure that out.

Seeing that this kind of problem can have various causes, an M.D. or D.O. type of doc is probably best at figuring out this kind of problem because they can order the proper testing and they know what kind of questions to ask. Hope you get this figured out soon and that you'll be standing tall again.
Thanks for this!

Thank you muchly for your reply, Charmer, and the helpful info.
I've waited nearly two months for new patient appointment with a PCP in 2 weeks.
I trust that she will be on it and I will mention the DEXA.

I am so glad that you got a good result and gained back some of your height. That's great.
Again, I appreciate your posting sharing your similar experience.

Good health to you both.
