I have a question not sure can be answered here. my aunt will be 75 next month. she is not all together if you know what I mean. anyway she had a carotid artery scan done and they say there is leaking of blood in the back of her neck. I am not sure what that means but do have a call into the vascular dr office now. anyone ever hear of this? looks like I am going to have to be in charge of her medical. she has no children. just me and dad really that can do anything to help her anymore

Sounds scarey to me! I have NO CLUE what it means. Best you rely on her doctors, Hon.

With all you already have on your plate, if she isn't in an assited living situation or in a convalecent hospital, that would be my first course of action. You've got more than you can handle already. my aunt

Here's what the Mayo Clinic says; the "leak" is known as a "dissection":

This could be a tear in the artery. It might be self healing but they might also need to repair it with surgery, or drugs or both... depending upon the need, they can also use a stent. I'm guessing the link given above probably has those things mentioned?

I'm glad they found it... and hope you can handle the stress. TC!

I have heard a little bit about this. Patients over 50 are usually at more of a risk than others. Im sorry to say, but this could be a bit serious. Just do what you can, in time, it will all pass. Most stories have happy endings, but in reality, everbody dies eventually. Its alright for her to pass. She is 75 love. Do what you can, but if God wants her with him, nothing is going to stop that from happening. I really hope this turns out for the better though. [BIG hug]

bebop, I'd have shown my husband a bit of righteous anger with a response, "What made you think I'm not/going to?" It wasn't an appropriate comment in the circumstances. What you choose to do for your aunt is not related to him and he's not your child that he should be jealous of your love/care of him just because you also care for another person, relative or not!
