I originally saw a nephrologist for abnormal kidney results but ended up talking to him about blood pressure. My blood pressure has tested gradually higher in doctor's offices for about a year. He ordered a 24 hour blood pressure monitor to make sure it wasn't just high because of nerves about being at the doctors, and I got the results of that last week. Turns out even while I'm sleeping my blood pressure is around 140 or 150 over 100 or 105.
We discussed lifestyle and I get an hour of exercise 5 days a week, and he said that was pretty good. We could try changing my diet, but my sodium levels weren't so high and I'm limited to what I can buy because I'm on disability. I'm going to apply for a special diet consideration so there will be a little bit more money for food, and I can see a dietitian through my psychiatrist's office. So I'll work on that. I started a blood pressure medication last week, but there was only a little change in my blood pressure at my doctor's appointment today. I'm supposed to monitor it myself at pharmacies until I see the nephrologist again at the end of August. The nephrologist said I was really young for this. I'm only 30.
