WOW!!! - I had my MRI done today (this morning) to see if the doctors might be able to locate the cause of my four month headache/migraine with face numbness (and) why my right eye some times becomes red-swollen-painful.

AND - now let me tell you all that I am feeling so strange since having the MRI done.... right after the procedure was completed I felt confused & disoriented for about 10-15 minutes and now my head is killing me and my body is aching. During the MRI that took 20 minutes I had pain in my head, chest and left side of torso and I had a tightining in my chest.

I WONDER what caused it and why I feel so sick and weak still.... two hours after getting home? I feel like I could throw up -

Has any one else ever had this type of thing happen to them after having a MRI done?
I have a follow up apt with the Neuro Doctor that requested the MRI and I will inform him of how I felt after the procedure.

Thanks....
LoVe,

Did you have the contrast? (dye injected)

Yeah, if you had contrast, could be you are allergic to shellfish (or iodine) and are having some reactions to it.

Have you been to an oral surgeon to see if your jaw is causing these problems? (I mean a real expert in TMD...)

Feel better.

Hi Rhapsody

My daughter had MRI twice. Once when she was 4 years old and the second time she was about 12 years old. Twice it went well, that is probably because they didn't inject anything into her body. If you were injected with a product then that could be the cause of the state you are in at the moment. I hope you will get over it quickly.

If they injected you with dye that is what could be making you feel sick...other than that...MRI's don't usually effect people!

NO CONTRAST was used.... that is why I am so confused to the reaction I had. The Tech that was there said I should not have had any side effects from just the MRI and for me to inform my Neuro Doctor when I see him on Tuesday.

So.... that is why I am asking if any one else ever had any problems or side effects from just a regular MRI?

* * * * * * * * * * * *

This what I found on-line when I did a search.... on MRI side effects.

Side-Effects that usually do not require medical attention....
These possible side-effects may go away as your body adjusts to this agent. However, if they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

More common: coldness at place of injection; dizziness; headache; nausea...

Less common or rare: agitation; anxiety; changes in taste; chest pains; confusion; diarrhea; dryness of mouth; fever; increased watering of mouth; pain or burning sensation at place of injection; ringing or buzzing in ears; stomach pain; unusual warmth and flushing of skin; vomiting; weakness and tiredness.

Other side-effects not listed above may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, inform your doctor, nurse, and/or pharmacist.

That will be our next step if the MRI comes up empty, as to the WHY?

when I had mine done I was told this reaction is a combination of dissociation and clausterphobia. The repetative loud noise and the closeness of it caused me to space off and anxiety. So I got the same reaction that I do with my Dissociative Identity disorder and with my anxiety panic attacks - as if I had dissociated completely into my la la land and come back one huge headache and blurry eyed and so on and not being able to breath and panicky feeling. The feeling passed after a bit.

Yeah the feeling has since gone away...... I took a nap and when I got up around 6 pm I felt much better.
I will still inform my doc of this on Tuesday and see what he says.... but to be honest, I am not for sure that I want to go through that again, so I hope they find the problem.

I'm a bit behind because I didn't see this, but I've had a few MRI's done before. (without the contrast)

I get dizzy, and just generally feel lousy after coming out of them. Could be stress, anxiety, or something as simple that blood flow gets changed when you're on your back for an extended period of time.

Glad you're feeling better.

Thanks.................... I think it was the PAIN that I had for most of the 20 minutes that shook ME up, I thought I was going to have to ring the bell they give to you in case you need help or need to get out before the 20 minutes is up.

My last MRI was an absolute MUST... brain. Had MRI today - I worked with T on compressing time through trance... and it worked wonderfully. (I made a styrofoam tube to lie in while learning to do it for this mri... others were not so great.) I would have to do that again with T when I need the next one.

I hope you are okay. ((hugs)))

Glad you're feeling better Rhapsody.

When they told me it would be an hour to an hour and a half for my MRI...I said no way. Had MRI today -

They sent me to a facility where they do upright ones. So I was sitting up listening to music. It only lasted an hour. Had MRI today -

OK - Heads Up....... I am going in to see the Neuro Doc to get the results of my MRI - keep those fingers crossed for ME....... that they found the cause to my headaches and pain, as to treat it, but that it is not serious.

Thanks....
LoVe,
Rhapsody - Had MRI today -

I will post the results later on tonight.

Well, what can sat, but once again.... all the test all came back NEGATIVE, therefore, the doctors do not have a reason for my intense head pain and discomfort - I just want to SCREAM!

I think this was my last straw.... I am tired of doctors and them never (or rarely) being able to find a cause to medical problems that are real - Can any one relate?

Oh well - back to not sleeping or feeling good.... I will be drained soon, very soon, if this problem does not go away, and fast.

OK - I am going to be making an appointment with my dentist to have him check for TMJ - since my GP and Neuro doctor cannot find the source of my PAIN..... I am tired of the PAIN!!

These are the symptoms of TMJ and most of them are the problems that have been keeping from a good night sleep and a good amount of daily enjoyment (5 mths).... Wish Me Luck.

(Temporomandibular Dysfunction) Also known as TMJ.
Symptoms: Headaches, neckaches, earaches, retro-orbital pain (eyes), jaw joint noises, dizziness (vertigo), ringing ears (tinnitus), sinus-type pain, dental hyper-sensitivities and other symptoms.
This disease has been dubbed The Great Imposter because it can mimic other disease entities.

I suffer from TMJ as well. My jaw will lock closed on me after any kind of dental work were I have to keep my jaw open for long periods of time.

Have you ever thought about trying a mouth guard? I know when I get to stressed I'll clinch my teeth a lot, which will make my jaw hurt even more. I seem to always have headaches and ear pain on the side that my jaw pops out of socket.

Let me know if a mouth guard helps any. I think you can buy them at places like Wal-Mart now.

Take Care,
Lisa

One of the issues with TMD and the MRI is that unless you use a high end, CLOSED MRI, it is NOT definitive enough for an oral surgeon to see what the problem might be (with regards to the jaw.)

I hope this is your problem.. as that you will have a solution or two to go with it.

Let the oral surgeon or specialist TMD orthodontist make your jaw splint, should they suggest one. The tiniest measurement off in the thickness or shape of the splint can make your bite and/or headaches worse.

Hello I hope you feel better at this time. Have you had the Flu or a bad cold recently. Sometimes migraines and your symptoms can be a symptom pf Mononucleosis (MONO) the Epstein Barr Virus. and sometimes if your system is down, you can get the symptoms of chronic fatigue from the Epstein Barr Virus from having MONO earlier in life or chicken pox. All of your symptoms are symptoms of the Epstein Barr Virus, and maybe a medical Dr can check you for the epstein Barr Virus by doing a blood test. Menopause can give you symptoms as well, when you have the Epstein Barr Virus (which causes cold sores) related to the respiratory system. I hope you get the right answers soon Take care Sincerely Soidhonia

NO.................... I have not been sick or had the flu any this year, it all just came upon me when I was up in Texas staying with my sister for a month after her husband passed away.

The doctors have ran blood test, did X-rays, Cat Scans and a MRI was done by the Neuro doctor I saw about 2 months ago.... still nothing, not even an infection. My GP did put me on Allergra-D about 6 months ago, but still nothing.

Since the main problem has decreased a lot after 6 months (the PAIN in head when I lay down & the daily Migraines) I have thrown up my hands and said: FORGET IT!!

LoVe,
Rhapsody -

P.S.
The only thing I can half way come with is that maybe my FIBRO has finally hit its low point, therefore, causing all these problems with my RA. Had MRI today -

This does sound an awful lot like the flu, or some sort of virus. You should make sure your doctor knows that just in case you could have a severe problem or if the possibility of the Avian Flu has come across. It might not sound like it but the Avian flu is on the Continent next to you and you live in Florida. Or it could be something else. one thing you could do is go to WebMD and do symptom checker, it can be really helpful and you sound like you are suffering REALLY BAD!
