![]() Does anyone here suffer from mouth ulcers? For me the little blighters erupt after I start to feel stressed or I worry a bit about things (I have not been free from mouth ulcers for more than a week in over 8 years). They make my anxiety worse, as life with mouth ulcers really sucks, its hard to enjoy a hot drink and eating is really painful. I get them mostly on my tongue, on the inside of my lips, and also right at the back of my mouth near my wisdom teeth! Does anyone have anything that works for them? I've tried all sorts of things but the solution is stress, unfortunately I'm just not a relaxed person all the time. Any help or replied appreciated.

Has herpes been ruled out? A swab can be done of one of the lesions and sent off for a culture. If it turns out to be herpes, then supressive therapy with Valtrex (one 500mg tab daily) would help.
A B12 or iron deficiencies can cause oral ulcers. A blood test would help diagnose this. Some people are sensitive to sodium lauryl sulfate, found in some toothpastes. Just some ideas ... |

Hi Lulu, no herpes has not been ruled out. I will book an appointment with my doc and ask. I have had blood tests in the past when I have had an outbreak and my results are all perfect. And yep, I brush with non SLS toothpaste too. Thanks for your help

Hi,
My brother used to get stress induced mouth ulcers. His specialist told him to get Maalox and swish it in his mouth and hold it there for a little while before spitting it out. The Maalox counteracts the acidity in the mouth and heals the ulcers. It really works. I hope this helps you. Best to you, Jan ![]()

Hi guys/gals,
Thanks for you replies and suggestions. We don't have Maalox here but I am going to try a similar antacid here and see how I go, excited to see what happens. Thanks a lot.

Hey all, I have noticed the antacids taking the sting out of my mouth ulcers! Not sure if it is just a placebo at this stage but I am sure it is making a different to the onset of my latest bout.

my husband gets these.
he has a solution he rinses his mouth with - it's a mixture of apple cider vinegar and salt, but he's noted that it has healed his ulcers faster (and he's tried everything - he's been to the doctor tons of times, tried listerine to clean it out, it's a pain for him).

Used to get these quite often. Yes, they're really painful!!
About 12 or 13 yrs ago our pharmacists suggested probiotics. It has been the golden ticket for me. The yogurt & liquid (DanActive) stuff works great. Will have a flare & in 2 days am all better. Hope you get some relief very soon!! |
