Every single female in my immediate family has LOW thyroid, and mine just tested high. They think it's a blip and will retest in a few weeks, but I've been reading up on some of the symptoms and they describe what I've had for the last couple weeks. Does anybody know anything about overactive, instead of underactive, thyroid?

Hmmm testing my biology anatomy here... thyroid is regulated by the thyroid, pituitary gland and the hypothalmus...any one of them out of whack and you get a problem (like everything else?) I think it's associated with Graves disease (easily fixed..what causes ppl's eyes to bulge)... and weight loss...
If you have been taking something for weight loss that might show high... if you have been eating a lot of iodine contained foods (even enriched salt) that might be the reason.. (fish etc) I know ppl with low activity of thyroid are always cold but don't know if overactive would make you hot ![]() What sort of problems were you having that you had it checked?

I got a baseline level when I started lithium a few weeks ago, and then another yesterday after having been on increased lithium for a week. I've been sick as a dog and they're trying to figure out why.

Also, strawberries can mess up your thyroid test. Believe it or not, strawberries contain iodine!
Candy, I hope you feel better really soon. I know that hyperthyroidism makes you very ill. Jan
