Daughter's dr's office just called and said that she's showing a hyperthyroid and she has to go to specialist. Also, the last couple of times she had BP taken, it was high.

She's been so agitated, so ill, so emotional and nervous and it all plays into pregnancy, but double whammy with this.

Does anyone know anything?

Kimmy, does the doctor know what it is exactly? There are various illness of the thyroid-- one of my nieces(I have 7 nieces) has hyperthyroid and just had a baby last year....... she has been on medication and the baby is fine-- she's even breast feeding. She was diagnosed with "Graves Disease" and as soon as the baby is weened she will have to take that radioactive iodine to destroy her thyroid. Her mom-- my sister, had to do the very same thing in her early twenties also.
Almost all the females in my family have some type of thyroid disease-- wonder if it runs in your family as well?

I hope your daughter will get good care and that everything will be fine.

thyroid can definately make a person feel sick. A specialist is probally a good thng, because they will know how to treat such a thing...who kows if she is lucky it could just be the pregenancy that is causing the hormone imbalance.

Thanks, guys.

No, we don't know the underlying issue (i.e. Grave's), but I kinda doubt that (knowing that I don't know poop from applebutter about it), because she was always borderline hypothyroid prior to pregnancy.

It makes me think it's the breakdown from back, steroids, then hormones from pregnancy...

THank you so much for sharing what you know and I'm so glad that mother and child are well. Hyperthyroid and pregnancy

I don't know much about pregnancy and different medical issues, but I do wish the best for you and your daughter. I will be keeping you both in my thoughts! *hugs*
