I've been having a lot of problems lately with being exhausted constantly, I have to force myself to get up and do things. I've also been having trouble losing weight even with exercise and healthy eating. When I walk my legs cramp really bad no matter how many times I may talk that exact walk. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? I'm not asking for a diagnosis, just curious. I'm going to start by telling my pdoc when I see her next week, see what she says, if it's from any of the meds I'm on. Then if necessary I'll go to a regular doctor to get a physical done. Diabetes runs in my fathers side of the family, if that means anything. I have bags under my eyes and look so tired lately.

Hi Bluebird! So sorry to hear that you are so exhausted and about the leg cramps, those are the worst! It does not sound like diabetes, but it is hard to know. One of the major symptoms of high blood sugar is excessive thirst, I have it and stay thirsty a lot. With the leg cramps, your potassium and or calcium levels could be off. It would be a good idea to ask your doctor for a complete blood profile to rule out issues, that is a good place to start. I was a RN in my former life...LOL.

Fatigue is the pits too, I have that all the time too. If I can help you please just ask, you have been very kind to me here. If I don't know the answer I can find it for you. Hugs and good luck at the doc!

I'm having trouble building my tolerance to walking too. I just don't try enough, but that's probably not your problem, Blue_Bird. I hope it will get better for you soon!

I have an underactive thyroid and these are symptoms of that. My main symptom was depression. It's easily diagnosed via a blood test. Worth getting checked out.
Thanks for this!

I just looked that up, I do have a lot of the symptoms. I had it checked about a year ago and everything was fine, could that change?

Definitely, and can change to normal after being under active (mine did).

I agree with Rainydaiz and Angelique67 - an underactive thyroid ("hypothyroidism") is quite common.

Your GP should be able to arrange for measurements of your blood levels of thyroxine (it comes in two forms; "T3" and "T4") as well as Thyroid Stlmulating Hormone ("TSH") - measurements of T3, T4 and TSH are easy to do.

If those measurements show anything of concern your GP will be able to refer you to a specialist endocrinologist who might want to carry out further investigations and then (depending on the results of those), discuss treatment options will you.

Yes. Mine was borderline at first and I kept having blood tests to check on it. Eventually it went over and my doc put me on thyroxine. I have regular blood tests now and my dose has had to increase a few times. Once on medication it's totally fine. My depression was very bad and I was sleeping loads. Had no energy to do anything. Lots better now. Hope you get sorted.
Thanks for this!

In my experience, cramping can be caused by:
- Inadequate water intake
- Inadequate Oxygen from breathing
- Inadequate electrolytes in your blood stream (when exercising, taking an electrolyte mix with water can help)
- Inadequate or no stretching of the muscle(s) prior to exercise. Stretching a muscle lengthens it, and makes it more nimble, preparing it for exercise

If you don't mind, can you list down the specifics of your exercise routine and your exact meals ? And also when you eat/exercise ? I'd be happy to help you, given that information. Without that, it's really just shooting in the dark.

I don't know your age, but I just read an interesting article on "perimenopause" which is the phase in our 40's prior to menopause. The symptoms are similar.

Thanks for the reply, I'm no longer experiencing this. I'm 20 years old
