I need to gain weight. I have a BMI of 15.0. i am 5'6" and 95 pounds. I am 16 years old. I eat and eat and eat but never ever gain any weight. I hate being so thin. I am physically healthy, and rarely excercise (but i move around alot due to ADHD), but i hate it because I am just tired of being bullied. I have been bullied for several years because of my appearence. I dont have many friends, yet I make sure to be very nice to everyone I meet, but all I ever get is a dirty look or rude and extremely hutful in return. I always smile at people, but they never like me and they also physically bully me sometimes. I am just tired of it all. Is there any medication to like slow down my thyroid gland or something to decrease my metabolic rate/metabolism a little? Please, and thank you for the time you took to read this.

I suggest that you see your GP for a thorough physical check-up. There are many possible physical explanations for your low body weight (thyroid dysfunction is one of many possibilities).
Seeing a qualified dietitian is also worth considering. Dietitians are health professionals who specialise in working with clients who have food issues. A dietitian will be able to review your diet with you and, depending, suggest ways in which it could be improved.

I'm in agreement with kiwi that it sounds like you need to have a family doctor or adolescent medicine doctor (primary care doc for teens) monitor your health and weight.
I wouldn't imagine that having ADHD and taking Adderall (I read your profile) would make it easy for you to gain weight. You may need a meds adjustment or if not that, then help from a nutritionist to help you identify ways to gain weight. Like super-high-calorie diets. I hear you when you say you already eat a lot. I have a niece who takes meds for ADHD and seem to have stunted her growth a little. Her ADHD is fairly mild, but her meds have caused her end up much shorter than her parents were expecting. I think that those who prescribe psych meds would do well to pay more attention to the potential harm that those meds may be doing to the physical health of those they're prescribed for. So...I hope your parents will be agreeable to letting you find a primary care doctor to look out for your body's welfare. Hugs. |

Adderall is an amphetamine and amphetamines suppress appetite. You're taking diet pills and wondering why you can't gain weight. Is there any chance that you could get by without the adderall, under the supervision of a doctor?
