Hi,

I am suffering with stage 4 cancer which was firstly discovered in my kidneys. Which started off as Pheocomocytoma slowly began to be more aggressive and after surgery my symptoms persisted.

I now have small-cell lung carcinoma - I have been told that the Pheo has actually come back, but this time on the other kidney.

However, treatment wise, I was told I would need extensive RT, CT & Surgery again. This was 2 months ago and I have not been phoned, emailed, written to, anything. Whilst writing this, the condition is getting worse. I feel like the system has just forgotten about me? And when phoning the medical team I am told "We will get back to you" I am on constant pain medicine and sedatives to put me to sleep.

What do I do now? Lay in my bed and let the inevitable happen? Let the reaper take ahold of me?

Something is wrong. Every time you call write down the day and time you call and person you talk to. If they say they will get back to you, tell them they told you that 2 mos ago and you need an answer now. If they don't give you one, ask for a supervisor. If that doesn't work, go to the office and sit until someone will see you. Whoever is denying your care or claim hear are some things that can help: mention contacting the attorney general or the better business bureau. I know it doesn't cost any money to make a complaint with either. You could also contact your local news station. They eat stories like this up. They love to investigate them. I'm serious. Your drs office would probably like to avoid this. Now if it's the insurance denying procedures then still can go with bbb, attorney General, local news and I think it's called the insurance commission. There is a n agency that oversees insurance companies. Good luck. I'm sorry you are going through so much . May angels surround you.

((((((( Psychiatry101 ))))))) I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I see that you are in the UK. I don't know the NHS works, but it seems like there should be someone you can contact. You shouldn't be left in limbo. Do you have anyone who provides care to you? They must surely know something.

Again, I'm so sorry that this is happening to you.

I would demand to be seen as soon as possible, simple as that. Go there and don't leave until you have been seen and/or treated.

Never lie around waiting for the health "care" field to call! NEVER! Get on the phone and call your doctor immediately. Insist that you speak to the doctor and do not wait for any alleged return calls. If you must, call back repeatedly until you get through. Tell your doctor the roadblocks you are having and insist he/she do something about it for you. It's easy for the doctor to make a call to authorize what you need. Doctors get action....patients well...it's pot luck for them.

Likewater has excellent advice above.

I know that the NHS is different from the US healthcare system, but do keep calling. Be an irritant that they will take care of so they don't have to hear from you again in a few hours. When you call, tell them everything you have typed in your post about your diagnosis, so they understand why you are calling. Tell them it's urgent. If necessary, go to the hospital emergency/casualty. Your therapies need to begin as soon as possible.

Is there some kind of patient advocacy group that could help you?

I am very sorry that you are going through this. My dad had kidney cancer 12 years ago and they took out his kidney. We thought he was in the clear then after 11 years it came back. He went to heaven May 4, 2014. Try calling or going down there. Take someone with you. Don't give up and don't wait for someone to contact you. this is your life take control of it. I wish you the best of luck.
