well it's official i have high cholesterol it started with my husband's health insurance requiring us to get "assessed" with a finger prick blood test, and now it's been confirmed by our health clinic.
this after a lifetime of being too skinny and being told to "eat whatever you like" and take in a ton of calories to gain weight.
now my weight is healthy. i am still skinny. and ironically i am going to have to start eating low fat.
at first i told myself i didn't care. that i would continue to eat whatever because i just don't care.
but i have my kids to think about. and the exercise part of the equation is just not going to happen, so i'll have to work on the diet part a bit i guess.
just wanted to vent a little. it's not the worst thing in the world of course, just kind of surprising and annoying.

Sorry to hear about this. You are right, it is not the worst thing to happen. Changing your diet can be enough to get it under control. I had high cholesterol and I decided to change my diet because I am against taking cholesterol meds. That is just me. I need to go back and get my blood work checked again but I am procrastinating. I hope that you can get it in the more healthy ranges. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this!

Genetics seems to play a pretty big roll in where your cholesterol is. I'm skinny and eat healthy/exercise but I'm borderline high, around 190. My mom's mom is real skinny too, and she's never been under 200, and my dad and his mom are both over 300 and don't really respond to medication.
Thanks for this!

First see if you really have high cholesterol. You take the total cholesterol and divide by HDL. Many people hit the ideal 3.5 and lower and are still considered having high cholesterol, which is plain insanity.

Females have no benefits from cholesterol meds. It's just a way of getting side effects.

We need cholesterol but it needs to be healthy shaped and we need a high number of "cleaners". This is done by cutting out refined sugar. Cutting out fat usually just makes numbers worse.
