Does anyone know of any supplements that help hair regrow? I'm losing noticeable amounts of hair everyday, which I assume is from my psych meds because I have no other medical conditions.

I'm really not sure of any. Stress can be a culprit. Have you tried speaking with the pharmacist about side effects and suggestions? Maybe others have experience. Sending ((((gentle hugs))))

Hi Juniebug,

We have talked about this in the following thread: http://forums.psychcentral.com/bipol...de-effect.html Maybe you can find some useful information.

It is normal to shed between 50 - 100 hairs a day, and sometimes even more depending on what you are doing such as shampooing/conditioning or brushing there can be even more loss. That being said, if you are seeing more loss than this it would be good to talk to your doctor because there might be something else going. There are several possible causes and why it is important to get checked by a medical professional.

Iron defficiency can cause hair loss, that's what happened in my case. I was put on a high dose iron supplement, that at least stopped the hair loss, but I have yet to have the hair grow back.

I don't know what med(s) you're taking, but you might try doing an internet search for its name plus "hair loss" and see what you find.

If you do find that other people are experiencing this too, if changing the med is an option, you could do that. If it's really helping you, though, you may not want to do that.

I have taken meds that cause hair loss, and it's very annoying.

The best thing that I know of to help hair regrowth is minoxidil. The topical version can be hard to apply, though, if your hair has thinned rather than left actual bald spots. I don't know about taking the oral version. I think you'd have to find a doctor to treat your hair loss to do that.

As far as vitamins and supplements, the easiest thing to do is to take a really good multivitamin plus an omega-3 supplement.

If you want a supplement specifically for hair loss, there are plenty out there, but no guarantees that they will be effective. I have included links to some that are highly rated, just FYI.

Big dosages of biotin. My mother has more or less destroyed her hair over decades of nutrient-poor diet, bleaching it and unmanaged stress. She is in her 50s now and her hair had become very thin some years ago. She started taking lots of biotin and it has actually made a noticeable difference. Which still shocks me because I tend to be pretty skeptical about such things. She doesn't have thick, luscious locks or anything, but her hair is normal density again.
