Basically, my feet are always cold. Quite literally, always cold. Unless I have a hot water bottle directly on top of them or have a blanket wrapped around them, my feet get so cold to the point they end up being close to numb. When I go out, I have to wear two pairs of socks (or tights and socks) because my feet and lower legs get so cold and it gets unbearable and affects my ability to walk comfortably.

My hands also get this cold, but not to the point where they go numb. My fingernails are purple - from the cuticle upwards about half way, it's a faded kind of purple but it's fairly worrying. I still have all sensation in my fingers and there isn't a tingling feeling or anything like that.

Other than my extremities being cold, I get pretty severe muscle/joint pain - I haven't figured out whether it's my muscles or joints or both yet. It sounds odd, but if you've ever had that painful feeling in your joints where you've needed to "click" the joint... it's like that, if that makes sense. But it's in my muscles as well. Last few weeks it's been mainly in my lower legs and wrists/elbows.

Any ideas?

My doctors suggested anaemia a while back (it would explain my appetite, fatigue and muscle pain etc) but I never went for the blood test... I'm going to the doctors tomorrow evening so I'll see what he says, but does anyone on here have anything similar?

Hello Khione: Unfortunately I don't have any ideas for you. Have you tried going to a medical website where you can enter your symptoms & get suggestions as to the possible causes? From what I've read, they're not all that accurate. But, short of seeing your doctor & having some tests run, it's probably as likely to be accurate as anything. One such website I'm familiar with is the Mayo Clinic website. My best wishes to you...

Thanks Skeezyks. I'll have a look at websites like that now. I have used the WebMD Symptom Checker with my muscle pains but not the cold feet/hands. I'll try now. Thanks!!

these symptoms can be anything. examples for some people this is normal, their body just doesnt hold in heat, for others its a symptom of things like not eating right which can result in vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency, health problems also have this as a symptom like anemia, cancers, poor circulation\cyanosis, carbon monoxide poisoning, drugs and alcohol problems....

my point there is so many different things this can be, literally thousands of normal, and medical problems this can be....

the best thing to do is contact your treatment providers they will be able to tell you if this is normal for you, your body and if not what is causing this and get you treated for it.

Here are some other possibilities. Let us know what your doctor says.

You should do that blood test! You sound anemic to me. When my iron gets low I get cold and fatigued. Daily slow release iron keeps it in check.

Hi Khione,

I always have cold hands and feet as well........and numbness........but usually my fingernails are not purple....I'm not really sure, but could be many things.....hopefully just bad circulation, which is what I think I have. If you're underweight, that could be causing it.
Hope you get it figured out.

Have you had your thyroid checked? I always had cold feet and hands and pains in my joints. I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid.
Thanks for this!
