It's one in the morning and I lay here with excruciating throat pain. I took a peek at the back of my throat with a flashlight and saw my left tonsil looking rather dark and discolored with white spots and patches all over it. I am achy all over and am also running a slight fever at 99.6 degrees F. All signs point to strep throat. I'm going to Urgent Care as soon as they are open this morning. There they can run the test to see for sure if I have strep or not. In the meantime, I'm in too much pain to really be able to fall back asleep. I might try some Aspirin or something if I can get myself out of bed.

You see, this is the latest in a long line of illnesses I seem to be stricken with these past few weeks. I've already been in Urgent Care with a really bad cough which they diagnosed as Bronchitis and had me on one of those machines for a few minutes to suck out the gunk building up in my lungs. Then there was my sinus infection, which I decided to treat at home. The fewer antibiotics I take, the better off I am in the long run.

Now the bug, or whatever it is, has settled in my throat and I'm not the least bit pleased. I might have to bite the bullet and take antibiotics after all. My poor throat is literally throbbing with pain. The morning won't get here soon enough.

Well, after two Strep tests that came back negative and drawing blood to double check that I don't have an infection, the docs think I probably have some sort of thrush growing back there. As gross as it seems, I probably got it when taking prednisone for Bronchitis earlier. The prednisone lowered my natural immune system, being an immuno-suppressing drug, and allowed the natural amount of yeast cells growing in the throat to multiply unchecked, thus getting out of hand and becoming thrush. I have an anti-fungal mouthwash that I am using for the next 14 or so days. It should clear up long before then I hope. In the meantime, I have a lidocaine mouthwash I can use to numb any pain and discomfort I have.

hi art,
I feel for you my friend.I had strep throat too . I got it while working at my day care center job two years ago . I had to go to the express care for my hospital cuz I couldn't get in to see my doctor about it cuz my doctor was booked and I needed a doctor's excuse to get back into work . I had to miss church that weekend too ..

Diagnosis: Anxiety and depression
meds: Cymbalta 60 mgs at night
Vistrail 2 25 mgs daily for anxiety prn
50 mgs at night for insomnia with an additional 25 mgs= 75 mgs when up past 1:00 in the morning

Sorry to hear it. I've had a bad year with illness myself. Since November I've dealt with a kidney infection, strep, sinusitis, and thrush. Hope you feel better soon.
