I went to the doctor today and told him about the intestinal bleeding I have been getting, I have been getting this for many years but never did anything about it (it started when I was a teenager and didn't want to talk about it and as I got older I brushed it off), and he is sending me for a colonoscopy to make sure I don't have IBD. Now on one hand I'm curious to finally find out what's going on, but on the other hand I am scared to get this done because of the preparation for it, the needle for the anaesthesia, being under anaesthesia, and having a camera in ma butt. And the fact I get anxiety

I'm not sure when it will be, it could be a while, but I'm really conflicted about it. Everyone keeps telling me it will be fine but I'm a total coward, I got anxiety just going to the GP today, let alone doing all this at a hospital.

I'm familiar with the procedure of a colonosopy because a lot of people in my family have had them (as bowel cancer runs in my family), and yeah the preparation isn't fun. It's no food and a lot of liquids.

I'll have to take a day or 2 off work for it because I work so much so I'll have to us up more of my annual leave for that. I'm not looking forward to it at all.

Be sure and wear loose clothing. I couldn't zip up my pants afterward because the procedure can make you bloated with air.

I have had several... The question about the prep day for me is...do I want cancer? Do I want to disappoint my loved ones and explain to them that I did not do it because I did not like the preparation fluid? No I do not. So for me it is not about liking it, it is about doing!!

While it's not impossible, being only 28 years old I doubt I've got anything more than IBD, rather than something like cancer. Doctors, hospitals, needles give me a hell of a lot of anxiety, and I've never been under anesthetic so it's going to be a daunting experience for me regardless of whether anything is seriously wrong or not.

I'm 29 and just had one. The most difficult and unpleasant part is the prep day and even it is not TOO unbearable!!

Once you get to the hospital day of it is so easy. I have tons of anxiety and it wasn't too bad.

Really the worst part is the prep. You have to drink a solution that is salty and tastes nasty. Depending on whether or not you are not knocked out all the way it is just a little bit uncomfortable. If you are knocked out all the way you won't remember nothing. I just had another one two months ago.

I've heard from a few people it's not so bad and I get food after, at the end of the day it will be good to finally know what has caused a decade of intestinal bleeding that I thought has almost completely stopped.

It's really not so bad. Anesthesia done in a hospital is safe because they have a specialist there the entire time monitoring your breathing and heart rate and everything to make sure it's going well. Full anasthesia problems you hear about usually happen only in clinics and dental offices because that specialist isn't there - and thats pretty rare too.

After the procedure I rested a little there and at home and by the evening I was going to a soccer game for my son. A little drowsy but ok.

Prep is bad because it's disgusting.

My mom and brother had it done and they had to drink about 2 liters of the stuff.

I on the other hand had crappy insurance and didnt realize it till it was too late but they gave me the cheap stuff which was like 2 gallons of the stuff to drink. It was bad.

I recommend the smaller quantity solution if you can, 1-2 liters I think or so that way it's a bit easier. If I had to do it again and even pay a little I would get the lesser amount.
