I usually hardly ever eat because either I don't have time, I forget that I'm hungry in the first place, or I'm too lazy to make something, so I just ignore the feeling until it goes away. I'll pretty much only eat an actual meal if my loved ones make me. If not, I'll just snack on some crackers or fruit or something throughout the day. Is this a cause of concern for something?

Hi, heatherguay, and welcome to Psych Central! We're not experts on eating disorders, but some people here do have them. I think the issues are are you staying healthy, getting the vitamins you need, and maintaining a proper weight, and also why you are not eating.

Some people do get too busy to eat at times. And I don't like to cook either. How about stocking up on some healthy foods that are easy to fix, even microwave meals along with fruit, etc.? Then you'll be on the safe side and not worry your relatives.

Hi Heatherguay,
I normally forget to eat when I am focused on a project or I am upset. I have PTSD so when I am upset I see eating as making myself vulnerable & exposed.

You know it is hard to make a full blown meal for just one person. I find cooking for others a real way to express yourself to another person. To let then know you care about them. Maybe once in a while you could try that for you... Cook a meal for yourself to let yourself know you care about you.

I doubt it is an eating disorder to forget to eat. I am quite the same but I have an issue with all routine, I assume from ADD. I've worked hard to try to get some sanity to my eating, it didn't come easy. Still I will never, ever eat three steady meals and two snacks that is so not in my world!

I wouldn't worry as long as you somehow get the food you need. Proper meals are overrated. If you spread eating out and eat a little of this and that, that is fine. Just try to eat every day... cuz I did not and I lost all sense of what hunger is. I guess my body gave up reminding me.
