Hello. New to this forum. Would appreciate any responses, so thank you ahead of time.
Has (or does) anyone here suffer from Hyponatremia... Extremely low sodium levels. I was in Emergency last week...had been really sick off and on for over 2 weeks ... and was told that I had 'dangerously low' sodium levels and that was what was making me sick.
I chose to go home instead of stay in hospital, and am taking Pink Himalyan Salt Sole' early in the morning which brot my count up in 2 weeks when I had this before (but not that low levels or that serious)...
Has anyone been really sick with this. I guess I am a bit better after several days and maybe too impatient but wondering if I will EVER get well again... I have Depression (therapist once a week) and I guess maybe it is not helping my attitude towards 'getting well' and trying to change attitude. Anyone familiar with this?

Hi Betty,

Yes I have had this. I had the problem of drinking too much water due to anxiety, it was also sort of a compulsion. So I did develop low sodium and was quite sick but I did not know that was the problem until I got some uncontrollable diarrhea (sorry, I know TMI) and had to go to the hospital where I was diagnosed.
I was able to get a normal result within a few days by drinking much less and taking some electrolyte supplements.
The ER doc said low sodium is common in marathon runners and is usually very treatable if you don't have any underlying health issues like kidney disease. Just make sure to eat and drink a balanced diet.
It sounds like you are well on your way by taking the salt, I did read about a connection with depression and electrolyte levels so you might want to look that up.
Take care.
Thanks for this!
