What would YOU think about an adult you saw, well.. Poop themselves while out in public? x(

I suffer from very severe IBS and this horror story seems more and more likely by the day.. I've just had a couple of train journeys where first, I had to go and knock on the restroom door as I felt I just couldn't hold stuff in anymore - I was SO embarrassed to bother the person in there, but felt I had no choice..

Today, I was on my way to see a nurse and had an awfully upset stomach. In the train, someone went into the restroom right as I was about to go, so I couldn't even knock and 'drive them out' when they'd just gone in.. I've never felt such panic as I did when I realised I had nowhere to go if I failed to hold it in..

I feel it'd help me immensely to hear there are people out there who'd actually be sympathetic and not like in my worst nightmares - laughing, pointing and humiliating me further, or disgusted, angry and thinking I'm the grossest thing on the planet..

Accidents happen, and not always at the most convenient of times. I don't know if you are male or female or how old u are but there are multiple types of pads and diapers out there for people to use for when u are away from home.

Yes it is embarrassing but our organs don't always function the way we would like them too.
Thanks for this!

Okay, so I used to be on a fabulous forum and one day someone started a thread called 'The I Sh it Myself' thread. People told their stories of...well...shi**ing themselves.

Believe me, you are NOT alone. I don't mean to dismiss your situation at all, though...I know full well how awkward and uncomfortable such an emergency can be.

I've worked in retail pharmacies in multiple states. This happens more than you'd think, and in none of those stores did I ever see any of my employees point, stare, laugh, or mock. We tried to help / accommodate the person and their helpers the best we could while maintaining as much dignity as possible for them.

Before plane rides, long car rides, concerts - I buy depends. It's mortifying in the moment, both buying them and the first steps wearing them in public, but it's worth it - to be able to keep having those experiences without it being ruined by the what-if's and panic.

Best of luck to you.
Thanks for this!

Thank you all SO much for your replies! You've made me feel so much better

It's dead embarrassing, but I've just decided that one thing I refuse to feel over my symptoms anymore is shame.. What is shame - thinking I'm bad, a bad person.. And an illness or a disorder does NOT make me a bad person!

I'm looking into buying depends online.. It feels mortifying and a while back, I wouldn't even consider it, but now I'm thinking it's gotta be better than the mortifying fear I feel when out and about..!

I feel really sure that no one will look at anyone sideways for buying Depends. Checkers see everything and what are they really thinking about...their job responsibilities and what time do I get to go home.

not.dead.yet.

I hate to interrupt your thread, but there is no option of sending a message or PM to you.

I am fighting a similar illness, either Chrohn's or ulcerative colitis, and have therefore been stuck in my apt. not wanting to go out (in case that need to go pops up).

Just wanted you to know that you aren't alone, even though you feel that you are. It IS horrible, but we are still human beings and are worthy of some respect in this world. Right??
