I am going tomorrow for my first Thermography. It is an infrared scan of the breast to determine if there are any heat signatures that could be cancer. I have seen that some studies say it is 83% accurate and mammography is the same. But Mammography gives you radiation and puts undue pressure on the breast which, if you do have cancer, can cause spreading.

Has anyone else had one?

I am not particularly worried. Another aspect of this is that it can show up potential cancer much earlier if you do one each year. Cancer causes changes in the breast early due to needing blood to grow. So before you even have a tumor you can see a heat signature where there shouldn't be one. Check out the American Academy of Thermography.

There are also things like high resolution mammograms but still has the problem of radiation and pressure on the breast. I will let you guys know how it goes.

So it went pretty good. All I had to do was take off my upper clothing. It was a small room with a small table, a laptop, and a camera like thing of a tripod. She took photos, one straight ahead, three at side and back angles, and then two that were sort of asku to the camera so you could get sort of a side view.

She will send them off to a thermography radiologist. She did let me see what she took and it looked like a lot of green (no problems).

I do have to go back in 3 months to get a second baseline. But after that 1x per year. As they will have a baseline and know what "normal is".

It cost 320 dollars. They said that my insurance may cover it but I have to bill directly. If my insurance doesn't cover it that is ok as my health FASA will.

So I got the results. I am "low risk" the thermogram is scored on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being normal and 2 being "low risk" -- I am not exactly sure the difference but I have seen that low risk is almost the same as normal. I have to go back in 3 months so they can determine a "baseline" but once that is done I will be set and only have to do it about every 2 years.
