OK so I have asthma and the new next door neighbour smokes and I had my bedroom window open this evening because it's very hot and stuffy and suddenly realised the room is full of smoke because he's smoking in the garden. So I tried to just put up with it for a while because I thought, well it's his garden, he's got every right to smoke in his own garden, but in the end I had to close the window but too late - now it's hot and stuffy and I'm coughing because I'd already got a lungful and more of smoke for several minutes and can't breathe (and also feel sick) and I really need fresh air. Not sure what to do really, the guy keeps me awake some nights too because his smokers cough is terrible. I do respect his rights but don't I have rights too? Feel kindof trapped.

Your right to vomit out the window?
Thanks for this!

Well... I guess you might want to investigate your options (if any) under the laws where you live. I see you're in the U.K. I don't know how things work there. Where I live, I'd just be stuck with the situation. Realistically that may be the way it is for you too.

A couple of things you might try would be to get a fan & run it with the window closed to circulate air. The other thing you could try is to put a large room-size fan in the window so that it blows toward the outside. This will also help to move some of the hot air in the room but it may also help to keep the smoke out. Of course the other option, if it is possible for you, is to put in a window air conditioner. (But I suppose if you could do that, you probably already would have.) I'm afraid that's what I can think of. Good luck!
Thanks for this!

A fan blowing the air back out might work actually, don't have one but yes, can't see any other options. Can't really ask someone not to smoke in their own garden even if it means I have to suffer the second hand smoke in my own home.

I feel for you. I live in an apartment complex and have a loud, annoying neighbor who - as if being loud and annoying isn't bad enough - sits in a chair outside of his window (which is 2 feet from mine) and smokes, all evening. Every evening. In this state it is illegal to smoke closer to any building than 100 yards. I have told him of that law. He completely ignores me. It's infuriating. I'm so sorry that you have to put up with such an invasion. I do think a fan would help.
