Went to the doc this morning . This is what I have . The pain is bad. I cant blink, chew, swallow or talk without it sending a sharp shooting pain in a couple areas. Otherwise a moderate type pain is just " there" all the time. Doc put me on Tegretol for this. Says that stress can cause it... well gee I dont have any of that. :: rolls eyes:: I need to sleep. I've had this for almost 6 days now.. so I am not getting much. Trigeminal Neuralgia

I've had TN for 23 yrs now. It's painful...bottom line.

I also have the continual low-grade pain, with zaps intermittently. Try to avoid chewing on that side, chewing hard things, very sour or sweet things, very cold things, and cold temperatures outside.

You'll learn your own specific triggers, beth, if this continues. I pray there's a cause though that's not yet been found and you'll feel better.

Nerve pain is hell on earth and I'm sorry you know my experience. Trigeminal Neuralgia Pain management saved my quality of life after trying to deal for the first 16 years.

Beth, PLEASE have dr refer you first to an ENT for CT scan. I had a large cyst in my maxiallary sinus that was causing mine. I just had the unfortunate problem of nerve damage during that time with a bad surgery.

Please check the sinus and if that's clear, have teeth checked on that side. A "silent" abcess can press on the trigeminal nerve as well.

There's usually a cause and if you've not had recent dental work, surgeries, etc., the cause might yet to be found and you might feel GOBS better.

Also check out the trigeminal neuralgia board at our sister site...neurotalk, OK? Good info there. This will take you straight into that specific forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=26

Good luck (((((((((((beth)))))))))))))

I am not understanding why he would put you on the tegretol. that is an anti seizure medication. I really hope you feel better soon. sounds really painful!

Beth, if you continue the "processing" problem, especially in combo with this pain, you get to the ER, OK?

Went back to the doctor today. The medicine he put me on Fridayhelped a little but not enough to make it tolerable. So today he's switched me to Neurontin. Dad was on this and he did nothing but sleep. Scares me to death thinking of taking it. But I guess I need to try in case it does help.

I have had a dentist appt set up for 6 months now for checkup. That is on Wednesday. So I will talk to him about what is going on so he can check for the " silent absess " or if there is something else. I really dont feel that it is anything dental cause it just doesnt feel like it. But I can be totally wrong. My Doctor thought it was a good idea to wait to see if it is dental . And we can go from there. I'd just be happy to get rid of some of this excruciating pain..

Thanks again for all your responses and thoughts and prayers. Please keep them coming.. at least so this new medication helps and i can tolerate it well.

Hugz
Beth

Well I just called my Fam Doc again. Yesterday i went to the dentist and they could not find a problem with my teeth . No abcess's or anything. So my fam doc called me back today . Said they could increase the tegretol.. which I said no to cause it was making me mix my letters up when typing words . Or they could refer me to a neurologist. So thats whats been done. I have to call later on this afternoon after they make the referal to make my appt.

(((Bethy)))) Neurontin works wonders for MS, for some, and not for others. I wish you well on it.

Well... it never ends. Saw the neurologist today for the TN. I am going to have an EEG tomorrow morning and MRI next Thursday if it gets precertified. Guess we'll find out if I got a brain or not lol. Ohhh yeah and #14 was added to my med list.. I wish there was ONE pill that was a cure all for every ailment a person had lol. Thanks for your support everyone. I appreciate it so much.

Luv ya!!

ya know .. you'd think that if you tell someone you had carpal tunnel surgery . You'd think they would take special care not to stick you with a friggin needle in your wrist!!!!! I am so upset now. They had to use contrast for my MRI, and they not only used one wrist, but BOTH! I told them it was still tender there from my surgeries. But they said it would be ok, it wouldnt hurt. MY GAWD IT DID!!!! The left is the one I recently had the surgery on they used that one first.. yeah nice. Didnt work. Vein moved on them. They then used the right one and had to dig for it there.

And I had to have a washcloth put over my eyes cause I couldnt stand that closed in feeling. They had to take me out cause I started panicking . Sorry for complaining yet again. Just tired.

Joe I dont know if they found anything or not they didnt say one way or another. But it doesnt surprise me they found a brain in you cause your one of the smartest guys I know. Trigeminal Neuralgia Trigeminal Neuralgia
