Hi everyone!
So I'm going to start off this topic with a warning for self harm, as this is it in a way. It's not a gaping wound or anything but I did to this to myself at least somewhat purposefully. I have a major issue with picking at my hands and nails until they bleed. This has only gotten worse since I was prescribed adderall along with my antidepressant. Now I've really gone and done it though. So basically... I've ripped the upper portion of my nail off in one of my picking fits- all the way to the skin. It seems to have solidified a lot, and I'm assuming this is the keratin regrowing, but will my nail ever come back normally? I'll add a picture below. I'm rather embarrassed to have to ask about this. Next time I see my therapist I'm going to finally come clean and discuss this habit with her. 20180907_105216.jpeg |

I'd think that your nail would regrow back to normal after this part of your nail grows out.
I must admit that before I scrolled to your picture, I was preparing myself for much worse upon reading your description. Just tell that therapist of yours that this is a compulsion you wish to stop. ![]() |

I'm sorry! I know for some people even the mention of self harm can be triggering, so I figured I'd warn. I definitely will, I'm pretty sick of it haha |

I think there are gel based creams out there to help with repairing injuries to nails. Worth a look, a little internet search.

I also tear at my cuticles. I have done so since I was a child. The more anxiety I have, the more I rip my cuticles.
Here's the interesting thing. I've been put on a fairly high dose of Lamictal and I noticed yesterday that for the first time in many years I have no desire to pick at my cuticles. ![]() |
