So I have had bad luck with the dentists lately. Basically I feel they are all money grubbing and trying to do work that isn't necessary.
I have damage to my teeth and I literally do not know how it happened. It is severe grinding down of the enamel. This does not, at the moment, create any problem for me. I went to the dentist for the first 30 years of my life. But every single time I go to any dentist they just keep talking about it. Asking me how it happened even though I told them a zillion times I don't know how... trying to scare me into having all my teeth removed. They say I will need to do that. I refuse to believe that when I do not have any pain or problem -- other than them saying this for at least 10 years. All of these things I have decided against unless and until I have reason to do so. Pain or otherwise. But it has gotten so bad I am avoiding the dentist. I got into a fight with the last dentist I went to see because she wouldn't focus on what I wanted her to do -- focusing on the teeth. This week my teeth have been feeling nasty and I decided to make an appointment for a cleaning. What I would like to do is just say -- upfront -- these things (1) please do not ask me about the wearing down issue. I don't know how it happened but what I do know is that I will not get a night guard or anything else. Just don't say anything. (2) If you see a cavity or anything other than cancer I do not want to hear about it. I will not have a dental exam. I will not see the dentist at this time. I do not want to get x-rays. I just want my teeth cleaned and that is all. (3) Please do not tell me I have peritoneal disease, gingivitis or anything else. I have been told such things a ZILLION times.. including being told I needed "deep cleaning" and frankly, 20+ years later.. none of that is true. Again, I just want a cleaning. Is there anyway I can get this message through without seeming like a problem? |

I think if you read it from a paper, and say to them you have enough anxiety as it is, it should go well. my 2 cents. I am also avoiding the dentist, which is why your post caught my attention

I urge you to go find a new dentist.one you feel more comfortable with.i know it's hard to find someone you trust.but it's best you leave if you don't feel taken care of & you feel like they just want your money

They are ALL like this. Been literally traveling all over the universe. It is their training. I just gave up and went to a place. The last place I went to I went because my gum was hurting me like something was wedged up there and before she even looked at the area she wanted to do an X-ray and deep cleaning. When I refused she started acting like I was a "problem" and i started being one when she basically did everything BUT actually look at the area. When I left she charged me for an exam but I have refused to pay because she didn't examine anything.

Well never mind everyone. The dentist wouldn't see me. After I took a day off from work and when I appeared for my appointment they dropped the bomb on me that they could not see me without an exam. I told them I wasn't interested in an exam and they said it was the "the law" that I had exam. I said.. let me see it... they didn't have it but I just left I said I didn't want them working on my teeth even if they relented.
It is NOT the law, it is their policy, but there is no way they shouldn't have let me know before I walked in the door. They only did that because then I would have no choice but to have it unless I wanted to waste the day. I chose to waste the day. I am going to learn to clean my own teeth -- straight up had it with all aspects of medicine. |
