My cholesterol increased about 28 points in the last year. I have a family history. My entire diet changed to ww. I have 3 months to control it with diet, or be put on meds.
I really don't want to take another med but feel like lowering it in 3 months is impossible. Any tips on lowering cholesterol fast? I've done it in a year but not 3 months.

I'm in the same boat. My cholesterol is pretty high and I am prescribed a statin for it but I haven't taken it for months. It makes me tired and depressed and I'm already dealing with low energy and fighting depression. I do take Ezetimine, another med that helps with cholesterol, and a supplement called heart Savior but I don't think they work nearly as well as statins. A lot of people have bad side effects from statins, unfortunately.

I found out the causes now to correct them. This won't be easy.

Cookies, cakes, chips, salad dressing, fried foods, donuts, chocolate, the list goes on. I had cut out most of this stuff, but a few things I was still chopping on. But even my salad dressing is high in triglycerides.

Did you fast for your cholesterol tests?
I bet you will be shocked at this but fasting for me increases my cholesterol. Every single time I am both 1. dieting and 2. fasting I will end up with higher than normal cholesterol results. I found a study that showed that "dehydration" causes cholesterol levels to increase. Next test, a week before be sure to drink water, add more sodium and some (not a ton) sugar (sugar actually holds on to water in your body better than sodium) and do not fast. I bet it will go down. Check out this website. Some millennials are experimenting with ways of eating that reliability reduce cholesterol tests. https://cholesterolcode.com Oh and tell your doctor to stuff his statins. It is YOUR BODY, you will do what you want to and take his recommendations under advisement. Jerk. |

At breakfast time (the most important time to be eating) a hearty bowl of porridge oats will reduce cholesterol. Generally speaking, consuming 5 to 10 grams or more of soluable fibre a day will be effective. Ideally, steel cut oats have been found to be more effective than rolled outs because they are far less processed during their manufacture. Here is some good info you may find useful.
